How old is my kitten?

Hello I've posted here before about my lovely girl I got on Friday, anyway so I've had issues with getting her to eat I've tried 5 types of food at this point and various ways to get her to eat and she's just not interested. The only thing she will have is kitten milk. She is using her litter tray and seems very happy and Spritely, I have an appointment with the vet in the morning to check her over but I'm wondering if she was given to me too early, I was told she was 8/9 weeks but I'm starting to doubt this. I had a kitten as a child but never remember her being this tiny. How can I tell how old she is? If she was given to me too early should i be reporting the breeder?

Congratulations on your new bundle of fur! Strictly speaking, if she’s from a breeder she should be at least 12 weeks old not 8/9 weeks. Sounds like she’s not a real breeder unfortunately so definitely ask for a full check at the vet and take your vaccination certificates so vet can check if they’re real. Sounds like it could be a bit dodgy so I’d want to know kitten hasn’t got any hidden issues. Try giving her tiny tiny tiny pieces of ham and cheese. And make sure there’s lots of clean water available to her :)

Hello I just sent breeder an email, he said she was November 1st which makes her 8 weeks tomorrow, poor little thing I'm so disgusted people like that can bread animals, I'm lucky she is with me now and I can take proper care of her. He wasn't an official breeder I saw an advert in my local pet shop, but I have all his details so I will be reporting him. Does that explain why she hasn't been eating?

mummy in your first thread she looked very young indeed. Her eyes appeared still blue/ grey. Most cats don't have blue eyes after a few weeks ( unless Siamese and that is a bright blue, not grey).
She looked tiny to me, much younger than 8-10 weeks (your original post said 10).
I'm no expert but I think you have been lied to.
I'm glad you are vetting her and I hope I am mistaken about the age, but you may need to hand feed her.
Cat milk from a supermarket isn't the same thing as kitten formula, so you may need this from the vet.
Good luck and I hope this goes well

Kitten milk was all I could get over Christmas out of desperation, but my local pet shop on my street is open tomorrow and they sell proper kitten formula so that will do untill my appointment which isn't untill the afternoon. I do fear I have been lied too also, I feel like an idiot but I'm not an experienced cat owner so I didn't know any different but I'm glad she is with me I will take care of her and do whatever she needs. She is very clingy and cries for me if I leave the room, she likes to sleep on my chest and has been carried everywhere like a queen! She seems very happy in herself though she has been running around playing like a lunatic all night

Our kitten was supposedly 8.5 weeks old when I got him. I got him the same food as he had already had, but he refused to eat it. After a good few hours I got worried and desperate, so I picked him up and physically put a little wet food in his mouth. At which point, he started wolfing it down.
I think maybe he couldn't smell that it was food properly. Try wiping some food on his nose so he has to lick it off.
I did ask at his first vet appointment, but the vet said he's the size he would expect, and cats do come in different sizes, he's just petite.
Since he first ate, he's now a ravenous little bugger. He's been on strict no food for about an hour now an anticipation of his castration op tomorrow, and he's miaowing already!
I did feed him a huge handful of biscuits just before 7, in addition to his normal teatime food.

Her nose, sorry.
You can give kittens goats milk too, if you're stuck, but not cows milk.

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/12/2017 20:32

Carrying her around is good as if she is very young, she can get chilled very easily.
Pop her down your top!
At least kitten milk will keep her hydrated.
I hope someone with more kitten experience than me ( TCN or one of the other experienced fosterers) can come and offer some advice.
I have only had one from a kitten, others have all been adults, but I really do think your one is a baby, not a fully weaned kitten

Thank you fiona, hope his operation goes well! I'm up for trying anything to get her to eat! Hopefully the vets can advise me tomorrow, I don't know where she is getting her energy from she's running up my curtain like a nutter I'm scared what she will be like on a full belly Grin

Weeds she sleeps on my chest I think she must like my heartbeat, I feel so sorry for her that she was taken so young from her mum. But I'm glad she trusts me enough now so I hope I'm helping comfort her!

Thank you Mummyoftwo91. He's currently curled up with his big brother, oblivious.
Best of luck with your kitten, it sounds like she has bonded with you very well already :)

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/12/2017 22:11

Good luck tomorrow, let us know what the vet says.

EachandEveryone · 26/12/2017 22:35

Aw she really is gorgeous

EachandEveryone · 26/12/2017 22:36

Is that a bellmon her? Used to drive mine nuts they would never keep one on

Mummyoftwo91 · 26/12/2017 23:38

Yeah as she's so small and I live in a 3 story house I need to know where she is hence the bell 😂

How did the vets go?

Mummyoftwo91 · 28/12/2017 19:58

Vets went well they couldn't be sure how old she was but they guessed around the 7/8 week mark, they are leaving her injections untill mid jan to be safe, but they said she was a healthy weight. Still having issues with her eating though!
