Feral Cat With Possible Broken Front Leg

I look after a feral cat who lives where I work. For the last couple of weeks she's been limping on her front leg and there's swelling but that's gone down in the last couple of days and she can put more weight on it. I really want her to get checked out by the vet but she just won't get into the trap.

We managed to catch her to get spayed which was a huge effort but even not feeding her for a couple of days hasn't done the trick. Does anyone have any ideas? Also tried to put a blanket over her but she was too fast. I was reading that feral cats can live with broken limbs but I'm not ready to give up yet.

TIA

You really need someone who is skilled in trapping feral cats. Whereabouts are you in the country roughly? @thecatneuterer is very knowledgeable about feral cats.

MsMims thank you I'm not in the UK. Where I live feral cats unfortunately are seen as pests even the ones that have been spayed. I'll check your suggestion thanks. There is nobody in the area who is an expert just cat lovers.

No idea how to get her into the trap to get checked, but well done for managing to get her spayed.

ZaraW · 21/12/2017 18:13

TheSecond took a long time but we trapped her by putting her favourite food down but she's too clever to go back in the cage. She has other feeders so she's not starving.

I would suspect that any break is healing by itself after this length of time, so little can or would be done as long as it isn’t infected and she is recovering.

thecatneuterer · 21/12/2017 18:16

You probably need a different sort of trap. One that looks completely different to the one you used before. But I realise that's a difficult thing to lay your hands on.

Can you talk to the other feeders and ask them not to feed for the time being? She really just needs to be hungry enough and she will go back in.

ZaraW · 21/12/2017 18:23

LookingForward I think so too but it would be nice just to check she hasn't got an infection. She's eating well and seems happy enough I'm hoping this is a good sign.

thecatneuterer that would be ideal but there is only one kind of trap for sale where we are. I don't know the other feeders unfortunately.

Oh, the poor thing. Is there any possibility of luring her into a building and catching her there? But be very careful, thick gloves etc.

Weedsnseeds1 · 21/12/2017 18:57

Or even a large fishing net?

ZaraW · 22/12/2017 03:37

Weeds no she lives in the gardens/carpark there are no buildings close by. The fishing net is a possibility thanks.
