Christmas foster arrived

We have a new foster cat who will be with us over Christmas and new year. He’s a gorgeous ginger boy who has been a stray for about three years. A group of neighbours had been feeding him but couldn’t take him in. They decided it was too cold to leave him outside so we picked him up. They had called him Keith, but we have a family member called Keith (coincidentally also ginger) so we changed it. Unfortunately at his vet check they found a grade 3 heart murmur, which will need investigating. Our own last cat was a ginger boy who died of heart failure, so this is a worry. No picture yet, he’s hiding under the kitchen units, just nipping out to use the litter tray and eat. He did come to look at us from the living room door last night so it won’t be long till he comes out.

Awww! Sounds like he's really learning how to be a cat! Good for him!!!

Hope it's not too long until his human turns up. x

Everybody cross your fingers! We’re doing a home visit for him in the next couple of days. I really hope it works out for him but this is going to be a bittersweet parting.

Aw so lovely. I hope it works out for him.

BigcatLittlecat · 18/03/2018 19:58

Oh well done OP what a lot of work you've done but he's gorgeous!!
As a previous poster said tricky cats can be rehomed. Our big cat was in a local rescue, when we went to visit she scratched one of the volunteers quite badly and was just a real grump. She had been there 6 months. We took her as DH said no one else would rehome her and she was desperately unhappy. She turned into one of the best cats we ever had, she was boss of the neighbourhood but a real softy at home. When she was PTS it was the first time I had seen my DH cry (that's a whole different story). We have two more rescues now but they were much easier.

The home visit came to nothing, but hopefully one will happen this week. 🤞🏻I’m going to miss him waddling (he doesn’t do speed) up to me, tail aquiver at the thought of having his head rubbed.

Very bittersweet... But fingers crossed.

chemenger · 30/03/2018 11:58

Just been for his second vaccinations, no hissing, all over the vet for head rubs. The heart murmur sounds very minor (grade 1 or 2). He has a prospective adopter coming on Sunday to meet him, so fingers crossed. It’s a retired person living alone who wants a companion, exactly what I was hoping for.

Fingers and paws crossed for him here!

I'm laughing at the brother cat whisperer. I didn't like cats, was a bit wary of them and then grew to like them
Sat at my friends stables one day watching her ride when a kitten clambered in my lap for belly rubs, purring away. Obviously I obliged while shouting "who's is this? It's cute?"
Entire stables goes silent and gasps "it's a feral that nobody can get near. Er can you flea treat it?"
Flea spot on, wormer down neck and it was still sat on me ConfusedGrin

Hope visit goes well for him. It'll be sad not to see him on the litter tray anymore, though, when he goes to his new home.

chemenger · 31/03/2018 18:26

I know you are all going to miss him, but there will be a new foster for you all to fall in love with soon enough Smile. We have a couple of new strays in, one with an abscess in his ear which looks a bit grim and an elderly one with terrible dental problems (described as a "mouthful of nasty" by the vet) who has had half her teeth removed and the other half to go when she is fit enough. She's also been shaved due to terrible matting, we don't know how she came to be in this state but apparently she's quite perky in the vet. I probably won't get them but who knows what will get. I would like kittens though ....

He’s gone. His adopter is very nice, totally happy to let him settle at his own pace. Should be a great forever home.

That's great. Hope he has a luxurious & happy life.

lcc7 · 01/04/2018 19:23

Good luck beautiful ginger boy! Flowers

TheLongRider · 01/04/2018 19:36

Fantastic! I hope he has a lovely new life full of belly rubs.

Vinorosso74 · 01/04/2018 21:03

Wonderful news! Hope he's settling in well.
The poor cat at my CP centre still wasn't homed and they decided she'd be better off on a farm or home with outbuildings so she can avoid humans so she's off to Wales.

chemenger · 01/04/2018 22:27

I’ve had a phone call from the adopter. Ginger boy has settled well already, “snuggling up” to his new dad who has been sitting on the floor to come down to his level. Sounds as though it’s going really well.

his new dad who has been sitting on the floor to come down to his level That's so sweet and thoughtful. May they all be very happy together.

chemenger · 02/04/2018 21:57

Unfortunately ginger cat is now hiding under the bed hissing and spitting. I’m sure this is just a hiccup, fingers crossed that the adopter keeps faith in him and waits for him to emerge.

lcc7 · 02/04/2018 22:11

What happened?? He was snuggling up to his new dad and now he is hissing and spitting?
New parents seem very caring and sensitive, I hope they understand how difficult it is for him...

lcc7 · 06/04/2018 17:23

Any news?

chemenger · 06/04/2018 17:26

He’s coming out in the evenings for petting and is purring for his new dad. The last message made it very clear that there is no question that he was in his forever home.

OP posts:
lcc7 · 06/04/2018 20:14

Ginger boy and new dad, please let it work! I've had 6 cats and dogs so far, all rescues. Some of them were extemely grateful (and some extremely self centered Grin) but all lovely and loved very much.

chemenger · 07/04/2018 07:41

New dad is great, he’s going to make it work.
