Getting a new cat with a crawling baby?

I keep wanting another rescue - what's the extra cost, really? - but DS is only 12mo and still very much in the crawling grabby oooh look a moving toy! phase. At the moment the cat can go outside or climb somewhere he can't get her, but obviously with a new cat that wouldn't be as possible. Is this a terrible idea? Should I wait, or would it be ok?

It's not necessarily a bad idea. As long as the cat has plenty of places to get out of the way of the baby. The rescue will need to make sure they only offer you 'bomb proof' cats (as we call them) that can tolerate just about anything. But as long as you get the right cat (and of course not a kitten) then I can't see the problem.

You need an adult who knows to move out of the way. A lot of cats are a lot more tolerant of babies than older children. They just seem to know.

True they seem to know - our cat tolerates a hell of a lot more from the baby than she does from anyone else Grin If it's not the worst idea then maybe I'll let them know we're interested...
