We had clever cats, now for thick ones....

Regular readers will know that my Boycat isn't exactly over-burdened with brains - examples include falling off the sofa arm when he woke up, taking 14 months to realise he could join his sister sleeping on the bed during the day, getting his head & shoulder stuck in the handle of a shopping bag etc.

But today I think he's outdone himself. Playing with a feather boa fishing pole type toy just now, he stood up Meercat mode to grab it and actually managed to fall over backwards!

Quite endearing in his own way, but Gods he is thick!

My boycat is the sweetest creature but thick as mince (girlcat is a genius).

He is on a diet and after many, many months still hasn't worked out that me opening the "treat cupboard" is just a ruse to get him indoors - no treat will follow. I admire his optimism.

He once got trapped in a drawer. He's large. Pawed open a bottom drawer and climbed in. When trying to get out he pulled the above drawer open trapping himself between the two for a number of hours.

He got his head stuck in a carrier bag handle too! It sent him into a huge panic so he darted about the place with a superman cape until I could catch him.

Ernie is our idiot cat. He has never tried to jump on the kitchen worksurfaces, has only just started to climb fences (and then he has a head start with the stone wall first) so why he thought it would be a good idea to try and jump through the kitchen window from outside...Cue his getting his claws in the rubber seal and frantically trying to get in while his back paws were skidding on the windowsill.

Last year he tried eating the Christmas Tree lights

Fatty and Snorg are particularly dim. I think their fur extends into their skulls. Apparently lack of brains is a Persian trait. I’ve not fully worked out if my parents Cat is super intelligent pretending to be thick or Is genuinely stupid!

We have a cat flap into the kitchen utility room from the dining room. Dimcat always gets in ok but sits on the other side trying to pull the cat flap towards her, usually for 5 mins before she remembers she can push her way out.

We have lived here for 2 years!

One of mine appears to have no short term memory. Gets up on next door's garage roof and you can watch her trying to work out how to get down. Eventually she works it out. And comes down the way she went up. She's got the catflap now bit it was painful for a good week watching her surprise as her sister jumped through the door with ease.

My cat is too dim to use the cat flap. She can get out, but not in. ( position of flap is fine as previous cat could use it).

When 'trapped' outside, she just knocks on it until someone pushes it open & lets her in.

BulletFox · 22/11/2017 16:28

Catmint no she's being clever. She thinks 'oh c'mon slaves, come and do it. Assist

My DCat doesn't seem to realise that climbing under the bed (via a drawer in the side of the bed, which now doesn't open) and not being able to get back out will result in my head appearing at the bottom of the bed attempting to locate her.

She eventually put two and two together and went out through the other drawer.
