What's your cat's personality like?

I got mine when she was 4, 9 years ago, she is very friendly and gentle (she was the runt of the litter) and at the same time a very inquisitive, sensitive, trembling little beast.

She doesn't seem to bond with other cats, I sometimes wonder if she's rejected by her kind :(

Did the cat IQ test. As I suspected, he's at least part dog 😀. Comes when called. Sits, ups and downs on command. Walks on a lead. Loves his tummy being rubbed. He's the best cat ever ( disclaimer- I have loved all my cat's, but this one is unique and fascinates me in his un-catlike behaviour).

Ollivander84 · 12/11/2017 22:12

Weeds - I contemplated the IQ test but he's too busy drooling on his own tail while snoring..

What's your cat's personality like?
Papergirl1968 · 12/11/2017 22:45

Bright, inquisitive and talkative.
Very loving to the family, friendly with most visitors, wary of strangers. Sometimes seems to think he is a dog - let’s me know when there’s someone at the door, runs to pull the post out of the letterbox, comes when called (usually). Other times thinks he is one of the children.
Not a lap cat but loves rubbing his head on us, and having tummy rubs. Shares his love around, often spending part of the night with each of us. Particularly seems to sense if one of the dc is poorly or upset when he will spend more time with them.
Very much a people cat. If I’m gardening or changing the bed or whatever, he comes to “help.”
Very adaptable - comes on holiday with us. Was a confident kitten who settled in right away and now takes most things in his stride from building work to fireworks. No trouble at all really. No toileting accidents, eats pretty much everything (does eat too much though and has a serious Dreamies addiction) and has never scratched the furniture.
The perfect cat and I love him so much!

Tiny black girl is a bit of a moo, she is the Earths Kit if Cats, petite, beautiful, vocal, with the deepest mew I’ve ever heard on a cat. She know her own mind to the point were she can be damned right rude. She loves DH & is very much a lap cat to him & no one else. Never if he’s bare legged though, she really tells him off if he isn’t wearing pants & she wants to sit on his lap & boy can she nagGrin. She was a rescue cat & I think she may have been abused by her previous owner, or at least the woman of the house as she’s always cowered when I’ve gone to stroke her Sad, same with DD now she’s adult size, but not when she was smaller. She also won’t be held by anyone but DH, but hold her as a kid would a teddy bear & she just melts into a happy soppy thing. The family who gave her up as a young cat had a toddler & we think she lived her toddler best.

She absolutely rules the roost though & boy cat worships at her altar & lets her have her own way every time, even with food. She is very clever, can open doors & turn on taps to help herself to water as a bowl of the stuff is deemed beneath her, so much so that I chose none bar handles when refitting new doors to stop her opening the loo door, turning on the tap & leaving it running HmmWeirdly we know she is ill, or due a fit (she’s epileptic) because suddenly she loves me most & wants cuddles, will even crawl under the covers in bed & stretch out along the length of my body to cuddle me. She loves snow & is timid outside & never goes further than our yard. She loves to hunt out there, thankfully the pickings are light, as she loves dumping her kills at DHs side of the bed so he gets his gift when he puts his feet on the floor. Once this was a large rat, thanks to neighbours leaving crap in their yard. Though she never bothers our hamsters, not even when one escaped & went down 2 flights of stairs & back again to fill her pouches with cat biscuits. She likes to “bark” at birds & dogs through our window & cat open the treat drawer & help herself. She’s a funny littlething Smile

Malice is 13, probably the stupidest cat in the world. He doesn't leave our garden ever, he sleeps in the hedge and is so lazy slugs end up all over him and I then have to pick them off. He hasn't got a malicious bone in his body and loves my OH so much that he cries for days when he is away on business. He is the worst hunter in the world, caught a caterpillar once! He is my puddle cat.

Miss Pfeifer is 8, half Siamese and a complete diva. She came to live with us after her real person (my son) died 5 years ago. She hates the other cats and people with equal measure. She loves me and I'm her substitute person. She is a beautiful dictator.

Jax is 2, he is gorgeous, loves the entire world. Is never happier than curled up on a knee or when eating. He seems to think that everyone loves him and are his friends. Not the brightest cat in the world but gentle and loving.

Pablo Bogart is 2, he is our little rescue boy. He is terrified of everyone and everything. He loves Jax and is never very far away from him. He is part rabbit (loves digging big holes) and part skunk (emits a smell when scared) Very cautious around new people and is firmly convinced that my OH is about to murder him at any given moment, unless there is a treat in OH's hand. He makes me smile everyday, I'm glad that we rescued him.

SilverSpot · 13/11/2017 11:36

Really gentle - hasn't ever hissed at me even when burrito-ing him to give medicine. Has only scratched me twice and that was accidentally when I was playing with him with toys and I didn't let go quick enough.

Friendly - loves to follow me around the house or sit in the same room as me.

Not a lap cat - doesn't like being picked up or touched unless it is on his terms when twice a day he comes on for a massive cuddle/stroke/purr session for about 10 mins then jumps off and settles down nearby.

Bit stupid - doesn't catch on the new ideas quickly.

Playful - but only a year old so still a bit kitteny I guess.

Hungry - ALL THE TIME

SilverSpot · 13/11/2017 11:39

Oh he comes when I call his name which is nice, and he knows what time I go to bed and that is when he comes for one of his cuddle sessions

Judydreamsofhorses · 13/11/2017 20:04

Easily spooked by loud noises, including heavy rain, but remarkably bold in other ways. We got her earlier this year, when she was three, and she’d had very limited access to a square garden with fake grass. It took her a while to get to grips with outside when we started letting her out. She always comes when called - and it’s a joy to see her bounding - but I am frequently astonished at where she appears from. I’m still in touch with her previous family and they have been amazed to see photos of her up tall trees, sitting on shed roofs and clambering over 7ft walls. She’s a total whore for treats, but fussy about actual food, and she would marry the radiator in the living room. She chirps and mips in such a comical way, it’s like she’s actually chatting.

Pancakeflipper · 13/11/2017 20:45

Our cat is 11 and been with us since 3months old.
He was the runt of a large litter. All unwanted.
He is orange and keeps himself very clean.
He's rather rotund and was a greedy cat. He has breakfast at ours then goes to the neighbours and keeps at them for his next breakfast. Appetite is slowing down as he gets older.
He is naughty and if you leave food about he will have it (cheese, tuna, cereal with milk, birthday cake have all disappeared).

He sits on our garden wall waiting for people to make a fuss of him. He acts like we don't love him or feed him ever. Any visitors get the full on purr, stroke me now treatment. He's embarrassing.

He follows us to the local shop and we have a place in a nearby hedge to hide him as the shop won't let him in. Then we call his name and he walks back home with us.

He knows the smell of fresh bedding and likes to lay on it and put his paw print on it.

If we are ignoring his pleads for food he sits in front of us with his back to us. Or hits me in the face with his paw.

When one of us is sad he seems to sense it and that person is the one he sits next to. Sometimes he stokes my hair. It's lovely.
At night he starts with going to DS2's bed. Then when DS1 goes to bed he goes there. When I go to bed he comes in for cuddle. Then he decides which bed he'll have for the night.

I love his company when I am gardening as he goes bonkers and races about jumping in the air.

He doesn't like other cats and gets anxious if they come around near our house. But he likes the girl cats next door. He sunbathes with them.

When I come home from work I drive past our house to collect my youngest from school and he's always sat on the wall and watches me drive past.
I am not the biggest cat lover but he needed a home at the time and we have a suitable house and garden..... and he's just brilliant.
And I look at him getting older and can't believe he's 11 now. He brings us lots of laughs and love.

Thingvellir · 13/11/2017 22:03

Thingcat is 13 months old and a bit teenagery. She attacks, bites and grumps around but never causes real harm. Walking down stairs in our house is at your peril, she lies in wait at the bottom and pounces you. Only when she’s hungry though, which is most of the time

DD is her great love, she tolerates the rest of us picking her up for a cuddle for a nano second, but will sit with DD for hours, sleeps on her bed and worships her. They are best friends.

Thingcat had a sister who was very calm, cuddly and affectionate, but passed away in a road accident - DD was distraught at the time and thingcat has been very affectionate with DD ever since, helped her through her grief and behaves as her sister did with DD so she feels the loss less.

Cats are complicated!

TheHodgeHeg · 14/11/2017 05:04

My little kitten was super laid back and gentle when I first got her at about 6-7 weeks (she was a stray). I think she was just starving though and had no energy to do anything other than lie in your arms!

Now she's almost 4 months old and the funniest thing. She loves to play with anything and can be a bit bitey although is slowly improving. She likes to sleep curled up next to me or my husband at night time. She sometimes enjoys being petted but only when she feels like it and only in certain areas.

midsomermurderess · 14/11/2017 13:51

Gentle, sweet-natured, affectionate. He will sit quietly by his bowl waiting to be fed, will gently paw you for a stroke, sleeps next to me on the pillow and ‘combs’ my hair. And he often licks me He has also recently taken to chasing his tail. He is an adorable cat.

Ski37 · 14/11/2017 16:02

Elvis is 2 years old, I adopted him when he was 18 months. I was told he was a house cat - he isn’t!!! He’s a great big (neutered) black tom cat. He’s very good at hunting worms and leaves but occasionally surprises himself, and me, by catching a frog/mouse......he doesn’t know what to do with them so it’s left to me to remove them 😡
He’s a massive wimp when it comes to other cats...... despite being twice the size of many of them he often comes running and crying back inside for comfort after even a little bit of hissing. He will then sit safely inside the door and project angry vibes to them! He used to avoid too much interaction but has recently been following me like a shadow and I can’t sit down without him leaping on me and refusing to move!
Reading this back.... I’ve adopted a massive useless mummy’s boy who like to posture at others .......I love him though!

Ski37 · 14/11/2017 16:13

This is him being exhausted sfetrvseeing off a seagull that dared to land on the fence,

Reppin · 14/11/2017 16:18

Exactly the same as mine. Approximately 95% of the time really really grumpy, but occasionally very playful, loving and funny.

lizzieoak · 14/11/2017 16:49

Fluffycat is affectionate, fairly dim, timid with strangers, murderous with wee beasties. He’s very big on cuddling.

His brother, not fluffycat, is bonkers, fairly bright and no sense of personal soace with his brother (swats fluffyone on the bum).

They are only 3, but crap at playing (which is fine as I’m fairly lazy). They are incredibly polite and will sit quietly in front of their food bowls, looking sad, but not saying a word. Ditto the front door.

Doobigetta · 15/11/2017 22:54

Mine is a little feline Arya Stark. Feisty, defiant, scrappy and adventurous.

Honey2468 · 17/11/2017 21:40

Split personality special over here. Sometimes she comes and sits right on your chest so you cant see anything or on the computer key pad, and if you try to move her you get a smack and a bite. Complete grumpy little curmudgeon. Loves to attack feet .... when you have hot tea in your hand, dives out from under the bed.
However in the morning or if you come in the door it’s constant purring and head bumps, chin scratches, rubbing herself round your ankles. Always with you and really vocal if you are cleaning the house and she can’t find you. Very independent, clean, self assured, bright, affectionate and super inquisitive and curious. But above all else completely fearless. So glad she is ours .... x

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 17/11/2017 21:53

Albert steptoe in feline form.

custarddinosaur · 17/11/2017 22:14

Custardcat is a bit odd actually - she's agoraphobic, doesn't like fish and sometimes will suddenly look at you as though she's never seen a human before in her life. She also leaves her tongue out at the ready if she pauses mid-wash. She'll only be affectionate or rub herself around you if you sit on the floor, if you're on a chair or the sofa she'll get on your lap and sit down, but then get cross and jump off if you have the temerity to stroke her.

A previous much loved and missed cat had only one foible - she would attack anyone playing the recorder - somewhat unnerving for the dc's during the school recorder playing years!

Timmytoo · 17/11/2017 22:51

My two are beautiful cars. They don’t scratch, bite or hiss at all. I can literally do anything to them. I love them with everything I have. My boy is almost human like and I feel his emotion, he can open doors too. My female is beautiful and walks sideways sometimes like a crab. They with my DP and I all the time and they cuddle next to each other. They’re the perfect cats ever and they mean everything to me.

What's your cat's personality like?
ScreamingValenta · 17/11/2017 22:56

My male cat is very gentle and loving, but quite shy and hates being picked up - he's black (a ringer for Ski37 's cat above) and is 17 now. My much younger female torby is inquisitive and lively, but also very affectionate and doesn't mind being picked up or even having her tummy tickled. They were both rescues; the older one as a kitten and the younger one was about 18 months when I adopted her.
