Does anyone else's cat do this?

I walk a lot around our village and often when I am on my way home my cat leaps out at me from a hedge or somebody's garden, meowing joyfully and trots along beside me the rest of the way home.

This makes me absurdly happy, to be recognised and greeted and accompanied in this way.

DH says I look like the village witch with her familiar....

She's quite good at traffic directions, if i point a finger and tell her to get off of the road she does instantly and dutifully trots along the pavement

I had one that would go tot he shop with me

Mine goes the other way- walks past me and pretends he doesn't know me. Several times I have looked a right idiot saying hi/ how's your day been to him and he has ignored me and stalked past whilst other people have looked at me as though I am a crazy cat lady for having random conversations with (seemingly) random cats.

My cat girls (sadly deceased) would occasionally follow me and toddler ds1 to the park. It meant crossing a busy road and my heart would be in my mouth as they had zero road sense. Cat girl 1 would be meowing with distress the whole time, as if she was telling us off for daring to leave the vicinity of home. Cat girl 2 loved the adventure and would climb the slide steps and bongle around the play equipment.

Cat girl 2 followed us to the postbox one day, which was on a busy cross roads. She decided to roll in the dust on the side of the road and caused mayhem as cars swerved away from her. I had to lock her in whenever we went anywhere after that. She was such an adorable muppet.

TheLongRider my boy does that as well! Only cat I've had do it. Also comes for a walk with me but it worries me how far he would follow me and there's a relatively busy road I have to cross so I turn round take him back home.

Yes! Our cat always meows loudly with delight when she spots us coming home, and trots home with us. Sometimes gallops.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 12/11/2017 18:07

Yes mine does this. When I go out for a run, she accompanies me to the end of our street and waits there for me until I come back and then she runs back with me.

Yep, ours both do this. It’s quite embarrassing when we pull up in the car and they both come running out of their hiding places, miaowing loudly, to meet us.

When we lived rurally, they also used to come for a walk across the fields and even joined us one day for a picnic. We’ve got the whole thing on film!
