Need to cat proof my garden and collars with cameras

I am looking into getting both and wondered if somebody could recommend a good make as there seem to be several on the market?

I don't think any cameras for collars have been made that are small enough for your cat to wear day to day. Why do you want them?

Because she has been shot and recently has come back with a home made wire trap around her neck 🙁. It has to be a neighbour or someone who lives near to me. There is a collar on the market called paws 3 which has some good reviews and you can track them. Before anyone mentions she would hate to be an indoor cat it would make her miserable and agitated.

That sounds horrid. I would focus on keeping her on your property. The camera will be no use if neighbours are genuinely trying to harm her.

Yes, I’m very down at the moment to think I have a sociopath living near to me. I have quite a big garden and near on impossible to keep her in but will try anything I can to keep her safe.

That's awful I don't suppose the police can look into it?? Being shot is horrible but a home made trap around her neck, some people are disgusting, anyway there was that programme on maybe 18 months ago where they put little cameras on the cats to see what they got up to so I assume something must be available I assume you have googled it. Have you asked your vet? It might be a specialist product that I guess would be costly.

It might be worth googling specialist surveillance company's who might be able to adapt something.

Sorry to be so blunt but if puss gets shot or trapped and does not come home the camera will be of no use. In fact the camera might provide an incentive to some sick fuck.

Instead, I suggest a cat enclosure in your garden at least for the short to medium term - or even temporarily re-homing her to somewhere safe.

That's awful and a camera will be no use at all. You need to somehow make an enclosure and, until that time, keep her in. Winter is coming anyway so it won't be so bad.

It's like when I was working somewhere unsafe and they said 'oooh but we have CCTV!!! (unmonitored and with a security workforce that were mostly in their 60s and who took 30 minutes to deal with lockouts, etc. anyway) and I said "great - let's hope that my murderer combs his hair for the camera eh?'. You can all watch the footage at the inquest.

The police said they cannot do anything without evidence and not sure what the law is for setting traps in your own garden? The thought of rehoming her breaks my heart but if it keeps her safe we may have to.
Waiting for RSPCA to phone me back.

What about building a catio? If you Google images or look at Pinterest you can see loads of examples. You can adapt a chicken enclosure or start from scratch. That way the cat is in your garden and cannot get injured. A camera will not prevent injury.

My take is that the police would not do anything when I was being threatened and harassed by a neighbour. They are not going to help a cat (as much as we love them). By all means CCTV your garden, but act defensively and not offensively. A cat enclosure or keeping her in or temporarily re-homing her is the best move. If the sick fuck is shooting into your garden or setting traps there then keeping her in or away is the best (combined with CCTV).

No, the Police will do nothing. We have been involved with some gruesome cases which I won't detail but which still haunt me. Short of having a photograph of the man in the act we had all the 'evidence' you could possibly need. The Police never even bothered to speak to the men in question.

Instead of rehoming i agree with securing your garden. Look at those cattery pens you can get beautiful outside cat trees for them.

100% build a large cat enclosure if your garden is too difficult to secure.

Seriously I wouldn't let your cat out until there is a secure area for her. some sick fuck lives near by!
