Vertical scratching post?

I'm in the market for a vertical scratching post that doesn't attach to the wall. I need something with a small footprint and that's not more than 4' (1.2m) high. The furry buggers have scratched the bejaysus out of the architrave by the kitchen door!

All suggestions gratefully received to preserve my sanity, the décor and their lives!

If they've already killed the architrave, how about just cutting up a cheap doormat and sticking it over the damage? Stops them getting ideas about elsewhere and you can easily replace with a new strip when the old one gets worn through.

We've taken down the old architrave as part of a kitchen refit and even though carpet on the wall would suit the cats just fine it doesn't exactly match gloss white units and duck egg paint! Shock

I have a Trixie one (I think) which has a cat face at the top. I also have one that beds and can be folded to make a corner (it is protecting the corner of the sofa).

I also have a cardboard one from Zooplus which I lean against our kitchen door frame which has taken a battering from little claws.

All mine except the folding one are from Zooplus, the folding one was on Ebay.

They are all on Zooplus, listed as scratching pads and boards. These are the ones I have (minus the pom pom) and there are others on there you might like.

Thanks for the links. I was wondering if other posters have used scratching posts that are free-standing and aren't as big as a cat tree. Our sofa is fabric covered with a curved back so a bendy scratching mat won't work and I don't want to attach anything to the walls.

I have a tall one from pets at home. Normal sized base but nice and tall think it's called the giant cat tree

My DSis has this one for hers, they absolutely adore it espacially her big boy Smile

We have this but he prefers to scratch the sofa. He likes the pompom though Confused

We have this from www.cat-on.co.uk/cat_scratcher/online-store.html. Our cats much prefer the cardboard stuff to any regular cat tree and I find it much less of an eyesore! The ones from Cat-On are quite expensive but they do last a long time (ours still looks okay after 3 years) and there are loads of different colours to choose from. You can also get something similar from Zooplus for a fraction of the price. Much less sturdy though, needs to be replaced every couple of months IME.

I have curved ones that fit round the corners of the sofa.

Aph413 we have this exact scraping post and we train all our fosters (and we have had many!) to use either this or a vertical scratch mat. If they like something vertical, this is a winner - train them up it with a feather or some Dreamies and they'll be hooked!

Thanks for all the suggestions, much appreciated! If the boss mog, (LongFluffyCat), deems one suitable the others will follow suit.

He's got the shortest paws in the house and gets the hump easily. I think the other two take the piss out of his T-Rex paws, especially when fighting with him and they can fend him off easily when he tries to swipe their tummies.
