Health insurance- pre existing condition question

Got a new cat two weeks ago that needed re homing. He's gorgeous- 18 month old friendly beauty. Today I took him to the vets for his first vaccination as his previous owner didn't want to vaccinate for whatever reason. The vet said he has a heart murmur. It's significant but not severe and recommends a scan to confirm what treatment is needed. My intention was to arrange insurance after getting him vaccinated; getting the highest cover so we don't get any nasty bills. But now it's a pre existing condition as it's on his notes. We can't afford the hundreds for vet bills, hence the insurance.

Anyone know if there's a way I can still insure? For example, after he's had his seconds set of jabs in a few weeks insure him and then register with a new vets? But with a cat so young, would it remain pre-existing, according to the insurance company?

Any advice please?

If you declare to any insurance company that he has no existing conditions when you know he has, that invalidates ALL the insurance cover for any condition. However most companies will insure with an exclusion for pre-existing conditions, so they will pay out for anything not related to the heart murmur.

I did a price comparison the other day on compare the market and one company and I think it is vetsmedicover is currently taking on pre-existing conditions, but you need to declare them.

My insurance wanted all the medical notes from every vet she had ever been registered with and in the notes it was stated that anything preexisting wouldn't be covered.

Ok thank you. I contacted previous owner and she said nothing was picked up when he was neutered at six months. She suggested going to another vets for a second opinion. However, if insurance companies request all notes from every vet I guess there's no way of getting around it. So I need to decide whether to go for one which includes pre-existing conditions (thanks lone, I checked them out) and pay through the nose (£26 per month with only £500 towards pre-existing in first year) or take out a normal one, hoping if we need to claim for anything else they don't try to insist it's somehow related.
