Can cats love you?

Newgirl has been lying on my bed giving me long slow blinks all evening. When I scratch her head when she is sleepy, she makes the happiest little wickering sound and nuzzles into my hand. She holds paws with me on the sofa. Am I anthropomorphizing terribly or is this cat love? I am certainly smitten.

Yep! Mine loves cuddles and checks up on the DC if they are properly crying.
Cats also tend to have a ‘favourite’ person that they choose so that shows they ‘feel’ differently about different people

Definitely! BiteyCat loves DH, tolerates the rest of us. He does long blinks at us all but from a distance, normally, whereas DH gets the full head bunts, clambered all over, look-at-ME-dad treatment.

Ours seems to have three categories people she loves me and DH, with blinking, a special purr, cuddles, following round etc, people she loves but is scared of - the kids - and people she hates and will attack, pretty much anyone that's not us but people who've been unfaithful by cuddling other cats (normally their own) are hated the most. If you've ever been unfaithful nothing will get you out of this category, cat has a zero tolerance policy and never forgets, hisses immediately on seeing these people even if they are offering tuna tins 3 years later.
