Best food for thin old cat

We have 2 15yo cats. Always been plump fat side of normal and have been on Hill's RD on vets advice for years. Their weight stabised at around 5kg for quite a while. Sadly boy cat is now getting very thin (under vet atm for bloods urine etc)
Can anyone recommend a good non diet senior suitable food while we figure out if there is a medical cause or if he's just getting old and frail. Girl cat needs to stay on diet food as she's a lazy little pudding so that will be fun

My Siamese has Iams Senior.....he has a very delicate stomach and has no issues with it. I supplement that with some good quality wet food.

My elderly boy (16) eats kitten food as senior food is too rich for his tummy. Our vet says that for his age he is doing ok, which at the moment he seems to be so I will continue with it.
At first I heard mixed reports on feeding a senior cat kitten food but it might be worth giving it a try?

Senior foods are lower calorie than adult foods and kitten foods higher calorie so if you're trying to keep an older cats weight up rather than down then kitten food is probably a good idea.

Older cats tend to get thinner due to muscle wastage. If medical conditions are ruled out then I'd make sure to feed a diet high in bioavailable protein i.e. high meat content. Lots of cat food only has a little animal protein, and the rest is topped up with plant proteins which are harder for the cat to process.

That's the sort of advice I wanted stressy any thoughts on brands. I can get to most supermarkets and Pets at Home easily or online obvs

I must admit I don't feed Harry senior food as there's so little choice. He has a variation of Natures Menu, Country Hunter, Hi Life and Meowing Heads. They are all high in protein and he seems happy on them. He's supposed to be on a renal diet but refuses to eat it so we give him what he likes.

I've got mine on Royal Canin Vet Care Nutrition Cat Food Senior Consult Stage-2 High Calorie , it's around £15 a bag on Amazon/Fetch and it's made a massive difference to mine. It's really high calorie so doesn't matter if they only eat a little, and I give him some of the Sheba soup sachets as well as he loves those. He was skin and bone 6 months ago, but his condition and coat have really improved since being on these. There are 2 types however, make sure you get the high calorie one.

I must admit that I'm a raw feeder myself gingercat and make my own batches at home so not particularly savvy on brands. Natures Menu Country Hunter is about 96% meat which is what I'd be looking for. That being said, I believe Butchers cans are about 70% meat which when compared to Whiskas and Felix at 4% is pretty good!

I'd also look at feeding an elderly cat a wet diet. After fostering many, many skinny cats with health issues, a wet diet is far friendlier on the kidneys and will make sure your cat is not dehydrated (which can contribute to them looking skinny and frail).
