Dead cat at side of A-road, what to do

Hi all,
Ive just come home from work and seen a dead cat near the central reservation on an A road (50mph but people go a lot faster.
Just found out it was there yesterday too Sad I would be devastated if that was my cat and it was left there but I'm not sure I can get to it. I'm going to go back in a bit and see how busy the road is after the rush hour, but if I can't who can I call?
It's really bothering me that it's just been left there. When my cat was killed by a car last year I was so very grateful that she picked my beloved boy up and took him to a local vet.

WWYD?

I'd do exactly that - take the cat to the local vet if you're able to collect it. If you're not you could ring the local vet and say what you've seen - that way if they become aware of any missing cats they can notify the owner to check. Horrible :-(

@SeaSeeker already phoned local vet and told them

I think you've done all you can OP Sad The only other thing I can think of is if there are any wildlife rescue centres or something like that near you they might help, especially locally run/volunteer organisations? They will often pick up injured animals. But I don't know if they'd help in this case

The council will pick it up if you ring them & scan for a chip.

I called my council when I found one on the way home from work.they will come and remove it and scan for a chip. However someone had moved the cat by the time they came out to it. I got a call from the council asking if I knew where he was, as the owners had been in contact. They put up a poster appealing for information which I responded too. I hope for their sake they never saw him. As he had Nasty visible injuries. I checked for a collar but couldn't bear to pick him up.
