We have a 6yr old indoor rescue cat. She is a native Egyptian Mau and very friendly. She does not sleep in with us because she clambers over our heads and wants to play at 4am - not helpful when we both have demanding jobs. She is shut in the kitchen/living room/ dining room over night. She always goes in fine but is miaowing by the closed door 95% of the time in the morning. We have had her for over a year.

We are moving house and our friends have offered to have her for a week. She has been there since Sunday and according to them she has not miaowed (she has been shut in their kitchen overnight) and they dont get up until 8.30 - we are up at 6.30.

They have stuck to our feeding times apart from making breakfast later. So - why does she cry at ours but not there?!

Its like kids, they know you'll stand for it but behave for everyone else.

Fluffy that's the only conclusion I can come to! She is a brat!!!

Could it be because she wants your attention, but she's not bonded to them so not that bothered about attention from them?

AyeAyeFishyPie · 22/08/2017 20:47

Awkward that's what I want the answer to be!!!

Well, it makes sense to me, and if it makes sense to you too, let us declare that it is the official answer!

I declare the above the official answer, too!

However I do think they know what they can get away with. One of ours was fussy with her food - eventually it got to a point where she had to gave her food in a certain bowl, in a certain spot in a different room to the other cats. We also had to fuss and coax her to eat.
Went away for a fortnight and DM fed the cats - she told me that Beastie cat had eaten her food the same way as the other cats with no issues! And still does now, once she realised her fussiness would no longer be accommodated. (After many sad eyes and glares).
