I'm just about to spend £485 EACH on two Tonk kittens.
Am I barking...?
Such a bloody lot of money! We went to visit them today and was kind of expecting £300/ £350..but £485!!!!
I love the breed- having read up on them. Please tell me they are worth it.

The £500 mark sounds far more realistic for a responsibly bred kitten. £300-£350 pounds is usually the sort of money charged by people who have bred from cats that were not meant to be bred from. The kittens can't be registered then and are not pedigree cats even if both the mother and father were pedigrees. I wouldn't buy a kitten from a breeder like that as they probably won't have had the parents properly health checked etc. As long as what you are getting is a properly registered kitten then I think £485 is fine for a pedigree cat, although I don't have any particular knowledge of tonkinese.

Sounds cheap to me! My BSH was £700

Slightly different breed but I think it still applies, we have two bengals and were lucky to get them relatively cheap. Having had them 7 years now I wouldn't blink at paying twice that. They are worth every penny Grin don't worry, first time buyer's panic is normal I think, it doesn't last long.

That's cheep we looked at some tonkanese for 550 but we were not happy with breeders set up ( was like a kitten farm caged etc and we wanted home bred). Actually I was horrified.
We are getting a Burmese and that's over £700 but champion line and home bred in a family. It costs quite alot to breed property and should include all vaccines, vet checks , worming flea treatment plus microchipped. Registered and a full pedigree. They should come with 4 weeks insurance plus normally some food and bits and pieces. Yep expensive but so is keeping a cat over the best part of 20 years ( fingers crossed). They are lovely cats you will not regret getting an oriental type breed I have a 27 year love affair with the Burmese breed!

Phew. Yes i think first time buyer wobbles.
They are from a very lovely home- the owners are high up in the Tonk Cat Club.
So now just to get excited, I guess!!!
