Cat wanting to be part of the family

A week ago I came home mid morning to find a large ginger cat in my lounge! She/he is incredibly friendly and has been hanging around (most of the day and night) ever since. Last night I got back at 11pm and it was outside desperate to come in, and when I got up at 7 it was still there. It climbs through my lounge window whenever I leave it open. It has been chased off by one of my cats many times but is persistently coming back.

I thought I might take it to the vet tomorrow to see if it is chipped in order to contact its owners. What if it is not? Could I take it in when my cats dislike it so much? How could I do this? My cats are 10 and 2 - the 10 year old is a very feisty madam....

Be careful about keeping him....one of mine is a Six Dinner Sid and does this with the neighbours. He comes home for food but then likes to go out socialising. They all know he's ours, and we don't mind him going in their houses not that we have a choice, but it would piss me off if they actively tried to keep him in as at the end of the day he's my cat and has a loving home here! One neighbour does feed him despite me asking her not to and I've had to have words with her about it, as I do feel that's crossing a line.

Update - the vet did find the owners via the microchip and they live on our street! They couldn't give me their details but are going to phone them, they let me take the cat back home and I have put a paper collar on and he has wandered off. What a cheeky little thing! I told the vet to tell the owners we will not feed him or let him in our house again.

one of mine goes visiting....the lady a couple of doors up has a lovely summerhouse and she sits in there to read, but often she leaves her kitchen door open and he goes in for a "chat" , she says he has beautiful manners!

the neighbour across the road also gets visits, and he takes her his catches sometimes. She doesn't feed him, but she does have cats so he will steal from her house, she is less impressed with his manners but loves him anyway.

Cheeky cat indeed! At least you know where he lives now.

I miss him dearly he is such a character but I know he is in good hands my mums friend now owns him and he gets thoroughly spoilt x
