We just today adopted a 12 week old kitten from our local rescue. He's gorgeous, mostly black with white paws and belly. We have the new bed, carrier, covered litter box because that is what he is used to (he's fully trained).

He's now roaming around the living room exploring. We've done lots of research bit have a few specific queries if anyone can help?

I have put the litter tray in the utility room, but how will he know where to find it when he wants to go? Should I keep bringing him to to it or should I have it in the same room as him for now?

The info sheet they gave me says supermarket wet food but does that mean specifically kitten wet food? I presume it does but neither shop I tried had specific kitten food. I think Tesco do pouches though, should I get those?

Should I keep him to the one room for a while or let him explore the whole house right away? We do have a young child (as well as older ones) and I want to be very careful that they aren't left alone together. Child is very gentle but too young to know how to handle it.

Thanks in advance!

When we got out kittens during the day we put a collar and a bell on them so we could find them. Took them to their litter trays a couple of times the first few days then they just new. If we shut them in a room they'd have accidents in the corners.

We need pictures

Amee1992x · 19/08/2017 18:09

I got whiskas kitten biscutes & wet food from Morrisons and Tesco

I took mine to the litter tray and put them in it a few times, they seemed to figure it out pretty quick and we had no accidents.

I would just pick up some wet kitten food for now and see how he goes, if you can afford a posher brand it will prob have a better meat quantity (although thats not a given!)

I would let him get used to one or two rooms first and gradually let him explore the house, it will depend a bit on how confident he is. My boy cat was a wimp and hid under the sofa for the first week. My girl cat on the other hand walked about like she owned the place from day 1 Grin

Yy pics are mandatory

Pics to follow, promise! He doesn't seem too scared considering there are 4 children here and peppa pig on the tv. He is darting around exploring everything and running behind furniture and out again!

Adorable!!

Good grief that's one cute kitten set on world domination.

I'd keep the tray where he can see it, they get a bit distressed when they need to go & can't find a tray.

Have you got a vet lined up for neutering & flea control?.

We have a voucher for discounted neutering and vaccinations for a local vet, from the rescue.

I do have an unexpected problem: since last night I have developed itchy eyes and a sore throat and snuffly nose. I'm worried I'm allergic to the kitten! I do get hayfever but never reacted to anyone elses pets like this. I've been reading on line that this is common with some people but they get used to the cat after a while?

We'll be keeping the cat anyway but wondering if anyone had experienced this?

Is this just a temporary thing or for good? I'm just wondering, if you are in the living room of an evening and you want the litter tray to be in the kitchen or utility, you don't leave all the doors open do you? I have a cold draughty house and in winter need the doors closed.....

I'm a little bit allergic to cats and itched and snuffled a bit for the first week when we brought our little guy home. Piriton sorted it. After about five days I hardly needed it and after a couple of weeks I'd become completely used to him. He sleeps on my bed, snuggles my face and everything.
