Moving house with nervous cat

Please help! We're moving in a couple of weeks and I'm worried about managing to move my poor nervy rescue cat. We've started packing already and she seems to be coping OK, but it's the actual move I'm worried about.

About 18 months ago she had a small operation on her leg and while she was OK going in the basket at first, by the last visit she was impossible to catch and terrified. I'm hoping it's been long enough that she won't remember, and that a new carrier (with the towels I've had down on the beanbag she likes to sleep on, so it smells familiar) will help.

Have got a feliway plug in, but is there anything else I can give her to chill her out? She's had pills from the vet before, but they won't prescribe anything without seeing her, in which case we might as well do without. On the Fetch website they have Zylkene and AL7 CalmAid, are those alright or should I avoid? Is there anything I can buy to calm her down and make it possible to get her in the basket?

Pet remedy spray might help. I found the pet remedy diffuser much more effective than feliway. If she's very nervous might it be worth putting her in a cattery for a couple of days, to keep her out of the way of removal men and furniture being moved. Then collect her when the big things are moved into your new house.

Zyklene us good stuff. It's the equivalent of us going to bed with a mug of Horlicks. It does calm them down to some extent.

Thanks toddler, that's really helpful. We're lucky that we're going to be able to move over a couple of days, so I thought I would take her on the morning of the move, install her in the spare room with a clean litter tray, bedding and food, and leave the door closed while we move stuff into the rest of the house. Think a cattery might be more traumatic if anything.

I'm glad to hear the zylkene is good, I'll give it a try!
