My cats are using neighbours garden as a toilet, mortified!

Communal Garden & despite having absolute acres of space to poo in (plus an always clean litter tray) my little buggers insist on using a particular neighbours set of bushes as their loo.

Not surprised their upset, must be rank to sit outside in summer surrounded by cat elimination smells!

Measures tried so far include topical treatments such as cayenne pepper, citrus peel, tin foil, sonic repeller & motion activated water sprinkler.

And their still going in neighbours bit of the garden, grrrr!

Considering spikes of some sort and/or chicken wire plus an outdoor litter box filled with either earth or sand but then there's the problem of it getting soaked when it rains.

Any real life solutions gratefully received pls

Real life solution- can't control where they shit, keep them inside.
Cats aren't sacred. They'll live fine inside.

mineofuselessinformation · 08/08/2017 21:59

Offer to go round once / twice a week to clear it. If they don't bury it, it's a simple enough job with the help of an adjustable rake set so the tines are close together.
Or, you could offer to buy a water gun for them.
(I do have a cat, before you decide I am a cat-hater! I just have a cat who goes in my garden, so I have experience of dealing with it.)

eddiemairswife · 08/08/2017 22:02

I don't care where my cat goes.

talonofthehawk · 08/08/2017 22:05

@eddie
I hope someone 'accidently' leaves something not so good for cats out in your case...

MeanAger · 08/08/2017 22:07

You hope someone poisons cats because of their owners opinion? Confused that's quite sick.

OP I have heard that lion poo works to deter cats.

TheWeeWitch · 08/08/2017 22:08

Two cat shit threads in one evening!

talonofthehawk · 08/08/2017 22:08

@meanager
I didn't say anything about poison, how dare you make that assumption?!

Mothervulva · 08/08/2017 22:09

I stuck bamboo skewers in the soil where some cats kept going and put out a high pitched beeping thing. Worked.

MeanAger · 08/08/2017 22:12

I don't need to dare, you said it. "I hope someone 'accidently' leaves something not so good for cats out in your case"

Of course you meant poison. What else could you have possibly meant? You didn't mean dreamies did you? Hmm

talonofthehawk · 08/08/2017 22:15

Nettles? Chilli powder? ANYTHING. Sick to automatically think of killing animals!

MeanAger · 08/08/2017 22:19

Nettles or chilli powder for what purpose? What would those things do that would give good for cats?

BibiBlocksberg · 08/08/2017 22:20

Thank you Mineofuselessinformation & Mothervulva, great ideas

Bamboo spikes - presumably garden centres would stock these?

Neighbours are very particular about how their bit of the garden looks but hoping to 'sell' them on the spike idea as a temporary measure until the cats have finally gotten the message!

Love my green eyed boys but not to the point where they're allowed to run riot & cause a nuisance.

To deter them! Not kill them!
Dear me. Are you quite alright?

MeanAger · 08/08/2017 22:21

wouldnt be good

MeanAger · 08/08/2017 22:23

you're contradicting yourself now. A deterrent isn't "not good" for cats and no-one would need to "accidentally" leave a deterrent.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/08/2017 22:24

Talon Have you any rl experience of cats?

Because you don't come across as having any.

eddiemairswife · 08/08/2017 22:26

How exactly can anyone stop their cat pooing in their neighbours' gardens? I'm not going to keep her indoors.

BibiBlocksberg · 08/08/2017 22:35

Brilliant Mothervulva, thank you, off to buy a shedlodlad of them tomorrow

They'll be perfect for a couple of narrow gravel areas in communal walkway (which one of my furry gits has also started targeting during all if the rain as it's covered)

Sigh, curse their clever little brains :)

I've used those kebab sticks, it does help

Gunpowder · 08/08/2017 22:44

DH told me this eve that our neighbours' giant black and white cat has been regularly pooing in our front garden for the last six months and has now started in the back garden too. DH caught him red-pawed this morning and apparently he just stared him out like 'yeh, what you going to do about it?'

I'm torn. Obvs it's unbelievably gross, and possibly dangerous as I'm pregnant, but on the other hand we've had no sign of mice for six months so I'm inclined to leave him to it. (Cat not DH, DH is good and clears it up). It's like a protection racket and we just have to put up with the shit as payment.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/08/2017 22:50

I think cats with that infection are only briefly contagious.

Fatjilly · 08/08/2017 22:59

My neighbours cat started using the gravel in my front garden as a litter tray. Its so gross and it stinks! I filled a load of plastic bottles with water and placed them around the gravel. No more poo. I do have to explain a lot to anyone who comes to my door though.

BibiBlocksberg · 08/08/2017 23:31

Gunpowder, your post did make me :) even though it's no laughing matter.

'Protection racket, shit as payment lol

We wouldn't accept a below par deal like that from any other creature would we?

'Tell you what, I'll keep the mice away so long as I can take a dump in your front garden'

Errm, thanks so much, what a tempting offer :)

Off to bed, got a lot of skewers to instal tomorrow.

Thanks for help everyone!
