Befriended a cat, don't want to upset owner

A lovely youngish cat has been coming to our garden nearly every day for a few weeks now. I've no idea who she belongs to,but she looks well looked after and is very friendly, so sure is not a stray (but no collar)
I give her the odd titbit and leave saucer of water on patio in the recent hot weather, she likes lounging on patio or on patio chair, when it rains she sits under the patio table.
Recently she comes in the house when patio doors are open when it's fine, and will sit on my knee for ages, to be honest I enjoy that. However I always make sure she goes out and stays out when we go to bed. DH is up early and says she's on patio at 5 am most mornings.
All this seems harmless enough, but I keep thinking her owner must wonder where she's going in the daytime(if they're at home) and I don't want them to be anxious, also they may think someone is trying to steal her (I'm not)
I'm thinking of putting a collar on her and attaching a message giving my phone number to ring me,so I can reassure them and if they want me to stop encouraging her into my house I will do. Is this a sensible idea? I really want to do the best thing.
Any views?

Don't put a collar on! Cat could be allergic; could stress it out (one of mine pulls her fur out); or could get caught on something. You'll work out who her owner is eventually. I wouldn't worry too much; I'm quite sure one of my cats has an "afternoon home(s)". Lots of cats visit neighbours throughout the day.

Paper collars are ok. Or Facebook spotted.

Maybe you live near me. A neighbour has gone away, and has put in place visitors and feeding for a cat, but cat is bit lonely and desperately trying to adopt us.
