Settling in marvellously

Thanks to everyone's advice - here is the lovely Georgia the MC 2 weeks in, enjoying her new cat tree. Any suggestions from folks with experience of big climbers welcome - she has succeeded in giving me a real heart attack already. She goes up so high on such teeny weeny ledges! I seem to have adopted Spidercat....

Well she's a real beauty!Smile No advice re the climbing, apart from make sure the shelves are all screwed on tightly! Will she be going outside once she's settled? My next door neighbours have just built a massive pergola, my cats think they have in fact built them a wonderful cat climbing frameGrinBlush

Not sure Posie. The rescue who we go her from say she is an inside cat but the person who picked her up said she had access to a garden.

I bet she will love it outside! I wonder if there's any real reason for her to be an indoor cat? I let mine out after 4 weeks and they were a little spooked at first (not sure how much access they'd had before we got them to the outside world, if any) but now they just love being out there. Good luck with your girl!

ocelot41 · 08/08/2017 20:07

What kind of cats do you have Posie?

OP posts:
PosiePootlePerkins · 08/08/2017 20:22

Just your average rescue moggiesGrin A black and white boy (he's a softie but also quite dim) and a little tabby girl (she's the boss!) They aren't siblings but have always been together, we rescued them in Jan, their owner became too unwell to look after them. Love them to bits! Oh and their outdoor adventures have included catching slow worms and birds and bringing them in as presentsEnvyAngry

My Norwegian Forest Cat goes outside. I think it's good for him. He doesn't seem to go far, and is still a complete limpet to either me or DP the majority of the day Hmm

Toddlerteaplease · 08/08/2017 22:29

She looks very happy. So dignified! She knows she's got you right under the paw!

ocelot41 · 08/08/2017 22:56

I am in love, she sat and held paws with me watching telly tonight. She isn't a big lap cat - affection is very much in her terms. But she can't seem to get enough of bunting me, comes when I call her name, follows me round like a wee shadow. I think I am the cat slave of choice!

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/08/2017 23:02

She might not cope going out if she's not used to it.

PosiePootlePerkins · 08/08/2017 23:07

Ah she luffs her hooman. (Now just be sure you bow to her every command and meet her every need, cat slaveGrin)

ocelot41 · 08/08/2017 23:09

I am not sure she really has ANY street smarts Fluffy but I may cat proof the garden for her. See I am enslaved already...

Cat proofing sounds like a good idea to me. I could not let her out she would attract too much attention.

ocelot41 · 09/08/2017 06:39

Oh and any ideas about how to discourage her from singing the song of her people outside our bedroom at 6am? Just as DS has stopped waking me, she has started! Letting her stay in overnight doesn't work as she just walks all over us. Would an automatic food dispenser help?

OP posts:
DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 09/08/2017 09:23

If she needs her slaves up at 6 am then I fear you just have to get up at 6 am and attend to her needs! Slaves don't get to make a choice in such matters!!!

A food dispenser would work if she needs food then. But it's just as likely she's decided she's up for the day and needs her humans up to provide entertainment. Mine usually wants me to open her window at some point in the morning. Any time from about half 4 onwards. I'll only let her out if it's after 6ish and light. Otherwise I do my damnest to ignore her. One of these days she decide to just lacerate me in my sleep as punishment. It's been nice knowing you all!

EachandEveryone · 09/08/2017 11:28

I've learnt to sleep
Through it if I'm not working and they get the message and go back to sleep. If you decide to cat proof the garden you will beable to open the door has she hit dry food down all the time? I notice mine must eat over night at some point as it's nearly all gone when I get up.

ocelot41 · 09/08/2017 17:36

I don't tend to leave food out no, as whatever I put down she scoffs immediately! Unless she is going to be a fat cat, I think I will need to stick to twice daily feeds. I think it's company - thank God she never wakes DS! (Deep sleeper). I am usually up by 7 so may try 👂 plugs until then

Toddlerteaplease · 09/08/2017 19:08

Does she still put her paw on her treat box?

Weedsnseeds1 · 09/08/2017 19:14

What a beautiful cat. Leaving the bedroom door open should solve the 6am wailing. Unless she's decided 6am is breakfast time, in which case she'll just wail closer to you and possibly jump on you as well...

EachandEveryone · 09/08/2017 19:25

Food timer?

ocelot41 · 10/08/2017 06:55

I don't think it's food - it's company!

And then as soon as you are up she probably takes herself off to bed.
