We recently (think last night!) acquired a 12 week old Persian mixed with shot haired British blue kitten. He is beyond gorgeous with the sweetest face ever!

I've always had cats but always moggies

Can anyone give me any info on these breeds...anything special I need to be doing/avoiding?

He is very very cute Grin. But are you absolutely sure about his heritage? He looks like a moggy to me (I should add I think moggys are best - so take that as a compliment) and I'm not sure why any breeder would do that cross?

Assuming you have been given correct information then I'm not sure what characteristics he'll show because British short hairs and persians are quite different anyway.

Adorable xxxxxx But be aware they can be very aggressive towards other cats. It's the british blue side of them.

juneybean · 06/08/2017 07:28

Oh he is scrumptious!!!

Persians are daft, especially the boys. So depends how much Persian he has in him.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/08/2017 08:10

He certainly has some Persian in him. He's got huge Persian eyes and the tail looks Persian. Agree about why a breeder would cross breed. Though my friend has a Persian/Selkirk Rex cross so it does happen. If he's got Persian in him he's likely to be docile, not very bright, very sweet and probably won't climb. Can't comment on the other half of him. But he's absolutely gorgeous!

Girlintheframe · 06/08/2017 08:15

Yes he is the cutest thing I've seen on four legs for a while!!

No not entirely sure if this heritage. The girl I got him from had only had him one week and wanted rid of him!! It was her who told me his heritage, not that I care as he is adorable but wasn't sure if he maybe had any special requirements.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to get rid of him Shock

My only advice (if you haven't had long haired cats before) is get him used to being brushed regularly.

IrritatedUser1960 · 06/08/2017 08:43

I have a british long hair and he needs professional groomer in every 3 months which costs £50.
Not so much when they are younger but when they get older they get a bit matted and dreadlocked. I also get mine a hygeine cut which puts a stop to the shitty trousers problem Smile

Girlintheframe · 06/08/2017 11:48

Thanks everyone

Yes to grooming from a young age...My Mum's persian was a bugger and had to be shaved a few times.

Someone on here said a Tangle Teaser brush was good for grooming

Toddlerteaplease · 06/08/2017 12:40

Yes to getting a professional groomer. I use a tangle teaser and a metal comb to do my Persians. Getting him used to having his eyes cleaned might be useful as well as grooming. Keep his back leg trousers short!!

thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts · 06/08/2017 13:07

I have a Persian cross moggie and she looks a lot like your kitten. Get grooming as soon as you can as the coat can be managed if your kitten thinks that grooming is fun. Mine hates it with a passion and growls if you go near her with a brush. When she was younger and more active we would clip her trousers as a long haired cat with runny poo caused by a vole that disagreed with them is horrible. Mine is now 16 whereas all my pedigrees died around 10 so a bit of moggie in the mix is no bad thing.

I've owned British Blues and they a a wonderful solid and placid breed. I can't the body type or face of a BB in your kitten but it might mature into, something chunkier.

Girlintheframe · 06/08/2017 14:40

Oh great idea about the tangle teaser!

I've read that Persians should be bathed regularly, is this true?

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 06/08/2017 14:58

I've never bathed mine. I value my life and would like to keep all my fingers. As long as you keep on top of the grooming and keep the back legs short they shouldn't need it. Should you have a poo incident you may need to though.

RubbishMantra · 06/08/2017 16:17

Oh that kitten's gorgeous! He looks to have the cobby shape of Persians and British Blues. And the big eyes. Never had a Persian, but my old boss had one she'd bring to work. He used to lie sprawled sexily on my desk all day demanding tummy scratches off everybody.

Maybe have some water only baby wipes on hand so you can give him a trouser wipe on exiting his litter box.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/08/2017 17:37

Wish I could take my cats to work! The patients would love it!

CatchingBabies · 06/08/2017 20:42

You need to question why she's rehoming him after only one week, perhaps he's ill and she's passing the vet bill onto someone else? Maybe he's from a kitten farm and her house is the cover up so you don't see that appalling conditions his parents live in?

Girlintheframe · 06/08/2017 21:05

Yes I did question it and to be honest....well I can't say what I truly think

I could be wrong but I think she thought kittens were not hard work and just cute. She also thinks the dog ate he kittens taeces (in the litter tray) then licked her face and gave her salmonella for which she was very ill for a week!

So far the kitten has b n confident, inquisitive and frimdly,

If he is anything like our British Blue he will hate being picked up and won't be able to jump up very high!

EachandEveryone · 07/08/2017 00:00

Photos when you get him homr please

iloveeverykindofcat · 07/08/2017 10:38

I consider myself an experienced conesseuir of kitten pics and I literally said 'aw' out loud.
He looks like the cute things Gremlins are before you get them wet. (Mogwai??)
