Advice needed about nursing mother

I am fostering a cat and her four kittens. It's been just over a week, and her health has worried me from day one. She has had diarrhea, she spent two days overeating and then nearly three days refusing food/having very little appetite. She sometimes appears wobbly when walking, and generally listless. The kittens seem fine but have also spent most of today sleeping - they are three weeks old.

I took her to the vet yesterday who only seemed interested in what she was eating (the cheap Whiskas crap I'm given) and what dish she was drinking out of. She isn't drinking water really but apparently isn't dehydrated. The vet took her temperature and gave her a worming tablet, but didn't do any blood work. I felt like she wasn't really taking me seriously. I've been given Hills Science food for her, but she's largely ignoring it, and is currently crashed out in bed.

Is it normal for nursing mother cats to appear lethargic and refuse to eat? This is my first time fostering kittens (and their Mum) and I feel very worried about her, but maybe I'm over-reacting?!

No it's not normal. I would try offering boiled chicken/rice or boiled fish for a while to see if that helps.

It sounds really worrying, I wouldn't be happy in that situation either.

I'd go to my own vet for a second opinion.

You could try giving kitten food as it is often recommended for nursing cats
