Merlin is missing

It's the first time he's not come home after dark, he hasn't been home since 7am. DP is out looking, Percy is mewing quietly because he misses his brother and I'm in floods of tears.

He's tiny - they're both 8 months tomorrow. I couldn't bear it if he never came back but he's scaring the life out of me. Feel completely pathetic for getting so upset but I just keep thinking he's lost for ever. He's the most darling ditzy fluff ball you'll ever meet and I love him so much.

You have checked the washing machine? 2 kittens rescued this week from a cycle that had been started.....
They survived after a trip to the vets. .
I nearly lost one had done 5 mins in a tumble dryer years ago. .

Weedsnseeds1 · 31/07/2017 22:45

At 8 months this could be the start of adulthood. Checking his territory and pushing boundaries. I hope he comes back soon.

Scribblegirl · 31/07/2017 22:51

Washing machine definitely clear!

I hope you're right, weeds, it's what DP keeps saying but I'm still so worried Sad

Hope he comes home very soon. They can sometimes take themselves off to explore and not realise how long they've been out.

Any sign of Merlin?

Scribblegirl · 01/08/2017 06:54

Thanks guys. He rolled in around 4.30am having been out for nearly 24 hours. Feel like a bit of an idiot for overreacting and panicking TBH! Think it's just because it's the first time he's ever been out at night - having to make my peace with them being more adventurous!

You need a curfew. Ours has his evening meal & the cat flap gets locked.

Ours did this at this age too.

Botanicbaby · 01/08/2017 08:04

Phew glad he's back it's such a worry when they wander & take their time coming home.

Agree about a curfew if you can build a sort of 'routine' they can get quite accustomed to it and be happy staying indoors in the evening.

Want2beme · 01/08/2017 09:29

Delighted to hear he's home! He'll be out for the count today!

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 01/08/2017 10:07

I bet Percy was pleased when his brother came in. How did you manage to keep him inside whilst the catflap (I assume) was open?

It doesn't get any easier. Mine's an absolute pain if she wants to go out when her window's shut - she's 1/4 Siamese and trust me, it's all in the voice! I do sometimes let her back out, esp if it's still light, but I really don't sleep until I hear her come back in.

bobdylannumber1 · 01/08/2017 11:28

Oh great he came home I'd have been frantic as well, my cats just 1 this month and I don't have a cat flap yet I leave windows open for her she has her routine and always come in around 11 then I close the window, one night she wasn't in at her normal time I went to bed after 12 but I couldn't sleep after half an hour I checked and she was in her bed I always give her dreamiest when she's in for the night. It's scary when they don't come in cause they have their little routine

Scribblegirl · 01/08/2017 12:25

Thanks all. Fluffy and Botanic, we do lock the catflap after dinner - he hadn't come in for his dinner as he usually does at 6pm, that's what had me worried. DP had wondered whether he'd been fed elsewhere but judging by the way he bolted towards the food bowl at half four this morning (naturally, muggins here followed him and provided a slap up fishy pouch - open all hours here) I think he'd spent the day on an adventure and managed to get himself lost.

Want, I don't know about him but I'm bloody knackered today! The catflap comes into our bedroom (ground floor flat), I swear I spent most of the night half awake, waiting for the tell tale 'click' of the cat flap...

Dude, we've got a Sureflap that allows you to set it to entry/exit, no entry/no exit, entry only or exit only, so we could set it up that way. Funnily enough our two are a Siamese/moggy mix and are super vocal too! Percy's cries last night when he didn't have his brother to play with nearly broke my heart!

Bob - tell me about it - I'm a bit of a creature of habit too, it's why me and the cats get on so well Grin
