Cat really spooked by something

Our beautiful Nando has been really frightened by something about a week ago, we noticed the cat flap was knocked out of the door as if something big had come through. Then we realised he wouldn't come down from DD's bedroom. I carried him down in the end because he hadn't eaten or been out for a wee for over 24 hours, and he was terrified and wouldn't go in the kitchen or living room.

He stayed upstairs for a couple of days and we fed him up there. Yesterday I made him go out in case he needed a wee, we haven't had a litter tray for years. He's only just come back now! And is still very anxious.

DH has spoken to next door and she heard a cat fight last week. So we're not sure what's been in, but he can obviously still smell it!

Any advice? We don't mind keeping him in, and I'll get a litter tray if need be, but it's awful seeing him so anxious

First thing I'd do is grab him a litter tray, so he has somewhere safe to do his business. He may feel too vulnerable to toilet outside, and holding their wee in can lead to UTIs.

Do you think another cat's got in? (the broken catflap) In that case order a UV light (cheap off Amazon) to see if interloper cat's sprayed in the house/garden and something like Simple Solution or bio washing powder to break down the smell.

You could also try a Feliway plug in and some Zylkene to calm him.

I'd say, there's no doubt you've had an aggressive visitor and that's why he's spooked. Or, he crashed through the cat flap to get away from something chasing him. Think about getting a microchip cat flap. He'll recover in time, but putting a litter tray down for him, gives him the option to stay in, if he's still not ready to go out. Don't force him outside. Play with him to distract him from his spookiness! Do you think he's been hurt?

No, no injuries that we can see and he's moving ok. He has a litter tray now and he's used it twice for a wee! Has been eating ok.
DH brought him downstairs last night and he seems ok although wants to be high up. He has gone out into the garden this morning, seemed really keen so I've left the patio open for him to come back in.
