How do you stop your cats getting out your garden?!

I have a lovely little ragdoll and she couldn't care less wether she went in the garden or not. She never jumps up on my work tops (I'm not sure she would even be able too!?) And we got her a compainion. He's a birman Siamese cross and he can jump. He's always on my work tops and crying to go outside. If he can get out he will! However we live next to a very busy road and there is no way id let him go out. Even my neighbours said they've never known a cat to survive it. I'm just not willing to risk him going further than the garden. Does anybody have any clever ideas?! I've seen the things you pit ontop of fences but that's not an option for us as it's too expensive as we will be selling this house in a few years so not worth it. Thank you for any help or asvice! :)

Could you get a really large run for the garden? Then he can get some fresh air but is contained. Once it depends on the size of your garden!

On Supervet last night there was a cat-proofed garden (post nasty accident) - looked a bit like a wire mesh lid over the garden. It would only work if you had a fence the same height all round the perimeter though.

Here are two companies that will do it for you, there are others:

www.purrfectfence.co.uk/

You can take the fittings down when you move and take them with you.

I have fitted purrfect fence toppers on top of my normal wooden fence. my Siamese cross is giving it a good test but has held so far....

If I moved, I would just unscrew the arms and taken them with me. Might need to buy new mesh if reinstalling it somewhere else but that isn't expensive.

DH catproofed our garden for a fraction of the price of getting a company to do it. He made the brackets himself and attached the netting and, as we only have a 3' fence one side he made longer brackets and just attached the netting.

My solution to giving my indoor cats some outdoor space was a wood-and-wire cat run. Is going down a treat with my 3 and I am so pleased with it Smile

DH did ours by fitting net along the top of the fence. It cost a tenner at most and will come down easily enough if we need it to.
