Flea advice needed

mywayalltheway · 28/07/2017 10:39

This is our first ever cat (indoor cat) but he has started to wonder around the garden, unfortunately he now has fleas. We've done the frontline a week ago but he still has a lot of fleas, I've been combing him though every day and still getting more live then dead, so is there anything else I can get him with it only being a week on from the frontline. Thanks

You need advocate off the vets.

Thanks fluffy

Frontline is no good at all. Advocate is great. Indorex is a great spray for the house if you need it.

If you've got leather furniture make sure no Advocate gets on it as it wrecked our new sofa!

I'd definitely recommend it despite that, we've used it for years for Harry. We're about to change to Bravecto though as it only needs doing every three months.

Advocate is amazing, and, yes, only available from the vets. Was using frontline, and got to the point where we had fleas everywhere. I've also learnt (through bitter experience) to keep Advocate going throughout the winter, when you'd generally expect there to be less fleas. Warmer houses...

Advocate it is then, been a week since we used Frontline and still getting several a day off him.

He is booked to go in the Cattery next week, will they now not take him.

I was going to ask the same question. My 2 kittens have fleas, despite using a spot on treatment. I have combed them through today and still have lots of live ones. oddly there is nothing in the carpet, mind you I indorexed the place a few weeks ago and we are not being bitten.
I have heard horrible stories about advocate though

Wolfiefan · 02/08/2017 16:20

If they are young kittens then vet. Don't use over the counter stuff. It can be dangerous. A flea infestation can kill kittens.

thecatneuterer · 02/08/2017 19:09

Big buttons - Yes kittens have to go to a vet. You can't use anything you can buy elsewhere. You can't have heard horrible stories about Advocate. It's fine and it works. It's Bob Martin that all the horrible stories have been about.

bigbuttons · 02/08/2017 19:37

I have seen bad reviews of advocate from people who have had it prescribed by their vets, that's what worries me. My kittens are 5 months so not so little any more.

Wolfiefan · 02/08/2017 19:39

We have used advocate for years. I am not sure how it has got bad reviews.
Kittens need to see a vet.

Vinorosso74 · 02/08/2017 20:41

I've not heard anything bad about Advocate and we just switched from Stronghold which we used for years with no issues so that is another effective option. Only reason for switching is Vinocat's weight being on the border for Stronghold dosages and vet thought long term Advocate would be sensible.

BhajiAllTheWay · 02/08/2017 21:05

There is something now called Bravecto which is a 3 month injection. We had a terrible infestation after using frontline and this worked miracles.

Wolfiefan · 02/08/2017 21:09

Frontline is rubbish.
Reported side effects of Bravecto worrying me. I wouldn't use that either.
