New kitten food advice

Hi, I picked my my kitten last week she is 10 weeks old. Her owners were feeding her perfect fit dry food and raw chicken. After having her vet checked the first day I got her the vet said to slowly introduce her to James Wellbeloved. I've been gradually mixing her dry food with the wellbeloved. She Just seems to have a very small appetite. Even when I leave out a bowl of perfect fit dry food she is not eating much. I thought kittens were supposed to be hungry all the time?

I got her weighed today and she has gone from 1kg to 1.3kg so a small increase in weight but I got the impression it wasn't enough. I've been measuring out the guidelines for the amount of food she should be taking for her age/weight and she doesn't come close to finishing it. It just seems to be a couple of mouthfuls a day. I thought her she might be off her food when first settling in but a week later and there is still no change. She is still full of beans and lots of fun.

I've given her some kitten wet food today to try and she has taken some of it but I'm wary of the vet saying about not mixing her foods and to stick to dry food only.

Has anyone been in this predicament?

Thanks

I'm going through the same thing with my kitten

Your vet is wrong. Dry food is rubbish for cats and wet is always better. And there is absolutely no reason why they can't have both. My current kittens will eat dry only when they are starving. I would give her wet food and see if she eats that and if she does slowly get rid of the dry.

Does your vet stock James Wellbeloved by any chance OP?

It's fine to mix different foods, that's the only way you'll find out what your kitten likes. All you need to be aware of is that some foods are complimentary, Applaws wet as an example. You would need to feed this alongside a complete wet or dry food.

I free feed mine Applaws dry, and a pouch in the evenings, they're a bit "meh" about wet food though. I make sure all their food has a high meat content and no grains/cereals. Zooplus online has a really good range of foods - they stock Animonda Carny Kitten which is a good complete wet food.

Thanks for your replies. It's very confusing with all the conflicting advice. I'm at the point I don't care what she eats as long as it's something. Still no improvement. I've tried some Lilly's kitchen and science hill wet food. She is licking the jelly but not really eating the actual food.

I've registered with zooplus but the cheapest delivery is £6.99 for my area. If I could find something she liked i wouldn't mind paying that to bulk order some food for her but it's expensive for buying just a few pouches.

I will take her to the vet again at the weekend. Fingers crossed it's just her being a fussy kitty.

I have the 4 weeks free pet plan insurance. Are they the best company to carry on with?
