Help! Cat brought in live mouse

He's brought dead ones in before but this one is very much alive and squeaking! I am SO scared of mice and DH is away - aaah!!!! I've just shut the door for now, can hear cat playing with it. I know it's awful but I hope it dies soon because I just can't cope with having to catch it. Definitely getting him a collar with a bell tomorrow! It will die of shock soon, right???

Don't be so horrible Hmm Go and get your cat out and then get the poor thing out.

harrietm87 · 21/07/2017 22:36

I know it's terrible but I have a massive phobia of mice. There is no way I could go anywhere near a live one. I know it's awful.

That's cruel. I find it very difficult to deal with them,,but you have to. My cat brought a live mouse in recently and I let her recatch it, then picked her up, put her outside and made her open her mouth to release it. Do it now, before it's too late.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 22/07/2017 00:06

No, it can take hours to die, especially if it hides in a corner whilst injured and your cat gets bored

GlitteryFluff · 22/07/2017 00:10

Oh no that's awful.
Surely you know it's a possibility and part of owning a cat.
You're going to need to rescue it.

Oh god I hope it's dead by now or you did the right thing and got your cat away from it.

C0untDucku1a · 22/07/2017 00:22

I am fucking amazeballs at catching mice now. 9 years of cat owning. Honestly sometimes my
Living room looks like a full sized version of the game mouse trap. Create a run then put a bowl over it and cardboard under. Put it outside and keep the cat in. You need to woman up about this. Leaving it in gour living eoom is irresponsible.

MrsQuim · 22/07/2017 00:25

You should hear frogs scream!

C0untDucku1a · 22/07/2017 00:27

Screaming rabbits you cant get from your cat are also awful to hear Sad

harrietm87 · 22/07/2017 05:53

Update - I managed to go in shortly after my last post and car was there proudly with 2 dead mice. Had obviously dispatched the first and then immediately gone and got another. He was very proud! I know I need to be less pathetic about this. But cat is 7 and has only started bringing things home in the last few months - not sure whether his hunting skills have only just improved or whether he's never shared before! As I said, collar with bell is on its way.

*cat was there, not car!

Harriet I feel your pain, I hate it when my cats bring in half dead mice or birds, I really do have a phobia of birds especially when they're flapping round my living room! I am an animal lover and hate to see any animal suffering but it really is hard. I notice your cat brought the mouse in quite late, I keep mine in from 9pm ish until I get up at 6am ish, seems to help cut down on the presents! Please be careful with collars and make sure it is a quick release one, cats can get horrible injuries and even die from collars.

GriefLeavesItsMark · 22/07/2017 08:53

I think it might be the rain, gcat hardly ever brings in wildlife (too dim to capture anything). But last night he brought in a live mouse.

It was horrible, I was shouting at him to put it down, but the little furry bastard was looking at me with a "what the fuck are you making a fuss about" face, then went and hid under the table. At this stage I went all girl job-boy job, and woke my dh to deal with it.

Apparently, dh then become an honorary cat, and they had an exciting game of 'guess where I've hidden the mouse's with gcat besides himself with pride and excitement; ; dh doesn't help, as he has a special speaking to the cat voice so it sounds like he is praising everything the little furry fucker does.

Anyway, mouse located and returned outside, and cat outraged. But too wet for him to go out and retrieve it.

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/07/2017 10:59

Use an empty takeaway container with lid next time. Box over mouse, slide lid under. Relocate mouse. I keep one on top of the radiator at the top of the stairs so it's to hand when he brings his catch to the killing field that used to be known as the landing pre-blobcat.

Yogagirl123 · 22/07/2017 11:09

You don't like the gifts? How ungrateful OP, lol!

SplodgeBear1988 · 22/07/2017 11:34

Our are always bringing in live presents from mice to baby rabbits and a mole or two. I think I am now better at catching them than the cats!

Yogagirl123 · 22/07/2017 11:50

The joys of cat ownership. You just never know if they will come through the cat flap alone!
