Rehoming cats

Hi

It's a very upsetting situation but basically a situation has arisen and it looks pretty certain I have to rehome my cats.

I have 3, one is quite old and he is ginger and neutered and then two who are 5, black and white one boy one girl. Again both neutered.

Does anybody know the best place for them? This is hitting me
Quite hard.

Local shelters?

Vinorosso74 · 17/07/2017 16:27

Am sorry you're having to do this.
It depends where you are in the country, avoid RSPCA and go for a no kill place.
Cats Protection are nationwide. However I volunteer for them and they have waiting lists at the centre I'm at which I think is the case across the country but if you call your local one they can advise.
If you can give a rough location of where you are we can help.

West Midlands way? Thanks. I feel rotten about it.

I think most shelters will have a waiting list. Other than that you could try asking people you know.

growinglavender · 17/07/2017 16:33

How long do you have to wait for a shelter place, does anyone know?

Why do you have to rehome? Not asking to have a go - I've been in this situation and its awful. But to see if anyone can help.

My cat went to a friend - I carried on paying insurance for a while to ease the transition.

There is Cats Protection adoption centre Birmingham: www.cats.org.uk/birmingham, you could try them as a starting point. The website catchat could give you some local shelters or ask your vet if they know anyone/anywhere?

growinglavender · 17/07/2017 17:08

Thanks, vino

paradoxical I have to go away. I don't have any friends I can ask unfortunately or I would.

Depends where in the West Midlands. The RSPCA stourbridge branch are very good, or I've heard good reports of Ravens Rescue.

growinglavender · 17/07/2017 19:34

Thanks Paper I'll ring around tomorrow. I just feel awful about it.

Could you advertise for a private fosterer until you are able to have them back? Ask at local vets. . I had a lovely woman's huge ginger cat for 6 months while she was in a refuge years ago. . Genuine people would ask you to cover food costs only. (and insurance if that's applicable) . Worth a shot.

growinglavender · 17/07/2017 19:42

Could try ... it might be for around 2 months though. More likely to be a month. But I couldn't afford much just food for them.

I've had good experiences with Dinky Paws Rescue in Birmingham - it was the only shelter in the wider Birmingham area that could/would take on a stray we found. It's run by a woman in her own house, animals (mostly cats and kittens) everywhereSmile. Find her on Facebook - I'm not sure if she does temporary foster care but it's worth a try. I am assuming a cattery is too expensive?

growinglavender · 17/07/2017 20:42

Unfortunately yes - I wouldn't be able to afford that. Thanks, Puffins Sad

Try Dinky Paws anyway, she's a true animal lover, who knows what she can do!

growinglavender · 17/07/2017 20:47

Thanks, I just want them to have a loving home.

Cats Protection may help you do a home-to-home adoption. They would advertise for you and vet the adopters for you then they would pick the cats up from you. This is easier for them because it doesn't need a foster or shelter place. I don't know if all branches, but I know mine does.

growinglavender · 17/07/2017 21:03

That would be great, if they could

Are you leaving and returning to your house? You could consider Trustedhousesitters.com?

Very difficult for you.

growinglavender · 17/07/2017 22:42

No, unfortunately, we'd be moving. And plus couldn't afford it. But thank you. I've cried so much about my cats, I don't care about anything else, just them!
