Just that really. Would love to hear all about ragdoll cats, their temperament etc. Especially anyone who has young kids. My kids from age 2 up to 6. I really want a good natured placid cat who likes to be with us & is affectionate. I know we can go to a rescue too& try find this but I really love this breed

Love them. Very placid and laid back, will be carried about like babies by any visiting children. Love cuddles and will shout at you if they feel they're not getting enough attention.

I once described them on here as the perfect cat for people who don't like cats, as they don't have any of that aloofness that's common with other breeds.

My nan has one, he's 17 now. Extremely soppy and affectionate. If you pick him up and put him down he'll just lie there until he's moved again- always been like that! Never hissed or scratched. So much fur though that gets everywhere

Yogagirl123 · 18/07/2017 10:54

Beautiful cats, I love all cats anyway. Someone I know had one and hers shedded a lot, also will require grooming etc, so more time consuming than a short haired moggy. Good luck OP

Perfect.

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 18/07/2017 11:05

Which one? I have three. Grin

They're addictive. Gorgeous cats, lots of personality, very affectionate and want to be where you are. They also like cat company, my three sleep in piles and are generally together. You'll often find a breeder will not sell you a raggie unless someone is home all day or if you have more than one so it has company, they're not cats that do isolation, and any reputable breeder will make you sign a contract that the cat will not roam free/be allowed outside as they go to anyone who coos at them and are not streetwise. They're very much pet pet cats. I have a cat run so they have outside access but safely. Chatty cats, they make lots of sounds from the chirping to the quarterdeck roar when put out about something.

One needs a daily brush through, the other two a comb through very occasionally. They do shed quite freely but they're very much worth it. I've had five in total: two seal points, two blue colourpoints, one seal bicolour. The seals have tended to be the big personality ones and the blues utter sweethearts, gentle and very cuddly.

You asked about children: they're like any other cat, they won't stick around for a toddler to chase and grab and although very good natured and gentle cats (can give pills to mine without any trouble, was hell on wheels with other breed cats) they will still swipe you with their claws or bite if annoyed or hurt. However they are sociable and very curious, so even if they don't want to be manhandled or harassed by a toddler they tend to sit up on surfaces to watch what's going on. My three are currently lined up watching the hedge being cut outside.

Iggypupper · 18/07/2017 11:12

Thanks all. They sound perfect. We really want an affectionate cat that will like being with us. Im home all day. And will be good with my young kids.

Of course goes without saying that they will be supervised with the kids. The litter Ive seen have only boys left. Any downsides to boys? Ive heard they can spray

OP posts:
Iggypupper · 18/07/2017 11:15

Also what are the downsides to having a house cat?

OP posts:
Jonsnowsghost · 18/07/2017 11:25

I've got a bit ragdoll and he's on his own too, doesn't like other cats. He's lovely and follows me around everywhere but he's also quite independent - sometimes I can't find him and he's off sleeping somewhere else in my house!
He's not a lap cat but likes to sleep near to me most of the time. Hes fluffy and sheds a lot but the hair is fine so I've found it's easier to pick up (although sometimes you find hairs in the weirdest places - cat hair around your eye ball anyone?)

He's only met one child and he was a bit wary but he just kept his distance. He's very funny and keeps me very amused with his antics, he's very dog Like! He's doesn't spray either and when you neuter a bit they're less likely to.

He's also a house cat and I can't really see any downsides, apart from cleaning the litter tray! He has access to a balcony which he loves to sit on and watch the world go by as well as various window perches and high places. He does have an annoying habit of scratching my sofas even though he has loads of posts....
Oh and he's also super handsome Grin

Not sure why there's a random 'bit' in there!

kel1234 · 18/07/2017 11:53

My cat is half Ragdoll (his mum was full Ragdoll). He is adorable. So laid back, except when he wants my undivided attention and me to fuss over him, which I can't always do with a toddler.
They are lovely cats, especially the full ones.
(My cats mum was my stepdads mums cat, they had 2 Ragdolls and they were both adorable. My CoCo was his mums last ever kitten.)

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 18/07/2017 11:54

One of my seal boys sprayed a bit when teenaged, hasn't for years and he's gorgeous. All three of my girls have been perfect ladies.

kel1234 · 18/07/2017 11:55

My cat loves cuddles, and will fall asleep on my lap, but other times he will want to be on his own. Mine loves to wander round at times as well, and to follow me round be right in the way or where I need to be.
Also he requires regular brushing to keep his fluffy coat looking it's best.
But he's perfect. My other baby.

Jonsnowsghost · 18/07/2017 12:01

@kel1234 oh yes to the 'right in the way', mine likes to sit right behind me when I'm washing up but I don't know he's sat there so he gets walked into by accident quite often! Oh and deciding he just has to be right there when you are doing something like cleaning windows Grin
