Do you think this cat is pregnant? (Photos)

Bit of a long story - not our cat (yet!) and I have very limited knowledge of cats. Slightly concerned she has developed a rather rounded tummy and prominent teats. Of course it may just be that she is behaving like 'Six dinner Sid' and that is the reason for the plumpness.

Still hopeful she may have a lovely family home and just be holidaying with us.

What is the mark between her front paws, on her chest? Is that another if the "teats@? It's too high to be a teat if so.

It seems most likely the cat would be pg, but have you checked they look like teats and aren't ticks, or growths?

Slow - do you know how to remove ticks properly? (Not everyone does including me when I first found one). If you're not sure, google for further info but basically firm grip on tick as close to skin as possible and then anti-clockwise (I think from memory) twist and pull.

With tweezers!

Don't let her give birth outside. You risk the kittens being eaten by foxes and, if they survive, becoming feral. She needs to be kept in until she gives birth. If you don't feel you can do that then contact a charity (CPL - not RSPCA, or any local rescue if you have one) and they will come and trap.

She will probably have to come back to you once the kittens are weaned.

An even better, but less palatable solution, would be to get her aborted. Not all vets will do it but a lot will. There aren't enough homes for all the kittens being born. Anything we can do to stop yet more being born is the lesser of two evils.

She doesn't have a loving home. A responsible owner would have had her neutered and, at the very least, not let her roam around while pregnant. She won't be chipped. Unneutered cats never are.

If you happen to be in London please pm me.

Try and keep her safe and somewhere inside if possible

My DM had a pregnant stray at her garden and she was viscously attacked by a Tom cat. I believe they try to get rid of the kittens so she can mate again??

Mr Tom didn't expect me and my DM coming out with a mop and broom to rescue DCat

DM rang the wonderful CP who agreed to pick up the cat the next day.

I head off to a festival, I get a pic from my DM that night saying "look at the kittens'

I end up with the mother and one kitten, my DM has the other two. Haven't regretted it at all.

The mother was a bit wild she'd obviously been mistreated and kicked and battered previously. She'd crawl out of the room on her belly if a bloke walked into the room. She soon understood she was safe at mine and could relax but it took time.

I'm experienced with tics so happy to attempt removing them and have tic removal tool.
Hadn't considered they might be tics but will hopefully be able to get close enough to check.
Thankfully no foxes nearby.

Id get her to a vet if poss- it looks like she has a nipple tick on her chest and maybe one on her front leg. Her tummy does look pregnant though . Do let us know how you get on and we'll be needing pics of any kittens if they do appear Smile

StarHeartDiamond · 13/07/2017 09:46

For a stray she is a good weight by the looks of it, pregnant or not, and her fur, eyes and ears look in good condition too. She's obviously been getting regular food and water for quite a while from somewhere although agree that she's unlikely to be chipped as responsible chipping usually goes hand in hand with responsible neutering. However there are some people who want their cats to have kittens so would chip but not neuter - mn is full of kitten threads and posts for example!

SuburbanRhonda · 13/07/2017 09:50

Please don't try to pull them off unless you're 100% sure they're ticks! It's making me feel sick just thinking about it.

I would just phone CPL and let them deal with it all. You don't know whose cat she is.

Whitney168 · 13/07/2017 09:55

Looks as if there may be some ticks there too - but she's losing the hair round her nipples, so definitely pregnant and a good way along ...

Shamelessly placemarking in the hope of a future kitty birth live thread.
