Vet has recommended this for my two as Wiseyboycat is really bullying Wiseygirl. I've bought in extra's of everything, i.e. litter trays, toys, scratch mats and they've plenty of different levels to sit on/in/under.
They're mainly indoor cats mostly by choice as when I'm at home they can go into the safe back garden when they please but Wiseygirl almost never does unless I'm out there myself, she's a real homebody. Wiseyboy is an in-out-in-out-in-out nuisance chappie but I know that some of the worst aggression happens when he's on the way back indoors from a garden visit. He's also started pooing on the lawn outside. There is another male cat who moved in next door about two years ago and he spends a lot of time sitting at my front door or loitering at the back patio door, in full view of Wiseyboy. Wiseyboy doesn't seem half as aggressive toward next door cat.
So I told the vet when they last had their check up and vet said she could make a referral to a pet behaviour counsellor as there's no medical reason, both cats are fit and well.
£350 for a consultation. That's a two - three hours home visit, report with a behaviour modification programme and some follow up with the vet if necessary. It's a lot of money and I'm not sure that I can justify that if there are other things I could do that I haven't already thought of.
I hate to think that my two are unhappy if there is something I can do, but there are things I can't such as put a cat flap in. And I work full time so I can only be here when I'm not at work. I've reluctantly considered rehoming one of them, or both of them if their living conditions are causing the issues but the thought of that is so distressing
Do you think £350 is reasonable and does anyone have any experience themselves about this kind of service? I've checked on my pet insurance and the company doesn't offer cover on any of their policies.
