Some people are so insensitive!

Can you believe what someone said to me today? 'You drew the short straw when you got Harry'! Erm no I didn't. I got my lovely, affectionate boy who I would do anything for. It broke my heart to see him suffering when he broke his jaw and money was never an issue, the same as it won't be if his kidney problems progress. He may have cost thousands in vets fees but he's given back far more than that in love, affection and fun over the last nine years.

i know where your coming from a friend of mine has a maine coon who is georgous but she has got a lot of health problems and has cost a fortune at the vets, but if you asked my friend if she regrets getting her she would definitely say no no no she loves her to bits and wouldnt swap her for the world, sometimes love is more important than money

Wolfiefan · 04/07/2017 15:39

Wow. Completely awful.
The only correct response other than fuck off is "no we didn't thanks. But thankfully he got the long straw with us. We love him and will do so all his days."
Poor baby kitty.
(Has he taken his meds today?! Stalker emoji!)

Botanicbaby · 04/07/2017 15:40

I know what you mean! I've had one of the vets say that to me about my feisty rescue tortie, he said the rescue centre must have been relieved to get rid of her. Well, I bloody adore her and she's the most wonderful pet & I wouldn't change her a bit.

Some people don't think before they open their stupid gobs.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/07/2017 15:45

Thank you, I knew you'd understand here! Unfortunately I had to be polite as she's my supervisor and to be honest I was a bit taken aback! I wouldn't change him for the world other than taking away all his health problems. DH and I refer to him as the gift that keeps on taking or a furry money pit but we're allowed to, no one else can!

Wolfi, we haven't given it to him today and he's eaten both meals. I'm going to try reintroducing it on Thursday when he's had one of every pouch without it but I'm not optimistic...

Wolfiefan · 04/07/2017 15:47

I read that as the git that keeps on taking! Must get my eyes checked.
Hope one of the alternatives mentioned on the other thread can help. Special boy.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/07/2017 15:52

I hope so. I'm not prepared to try and open his mouth to syringe anything in case I hurt his jaw so if he won't take anything it's a case of letting nature take it's course. Obviously not what I want but I won't make him miserable for the rest of his days!

OP posts:
Want2beme · 04/07/2017 15:52

Anyone who says that, doesn't love animals unconditionally! You're doing a fine job of looking after Harry. Ignore them.

Wolfiefan · 04/07/2017 15:54

You can't syringe stuff at all can you? It's not like he will calmly open his mouth a few mm and let you. There's a huge risk for him.
Really hope they can find a med that helps. Ultimately you're right. It's not about what we want but what's best for them. Sad

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/07/2017 16:01

We tried syringing at the vet when he had antibiotics. I held Harry and DH did the syringing. He forgot he hasn't got many teeth and squirted it in one side and out through the gap the other side! It went all over me and the vet just looked bemused as I sttod there with antibiotic soaking into my coat!

Thanks Want2beme

Harry is a star! Just ignore that sort of comment.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/07/2017 16:48

I'll tell him that cozie! He seems to be using the patio doors to come in and out now so I'm wondering if he can't fit his head through the cat flap!

Weedsnseeds1 · 04/07/2017 19:12

I'd be tempted to reply "I drew the short straw with you as a boss" ....

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/07/2017 19:20

I can't weeds, she's generally one of the kindest people I know! The only problem is she has a tendency to put both feet in it rather a lot!

OP posts:
Weedsnseeds1 · 04/07/2017 19:32

Ah well, if she's genuinely kind, I'd be tempted to write it off to " blurting out without thinking how it sounds" syndrome and think no more of it!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/07/2017 21:58

No one insults my Harry Puss though! I'm still upset the vet nurse called him a lump last week!

Here's a picture of His Lordship relaxing on one of his many personalised blankets.

He is wonderful and anyone who disagrees is wrong. And unreasonable.

Wolfiefan · 04/07/2017 22:02

The vet nurse needs to give her head a wobble.
TheCatOfAthenry is correct.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/07/2017 22:09

Thank you for all your kind words, he won't fit his head through the patio doors at this rate let alone the cat flap!

I know I'm biased but he is rather handsome and I was definitely lucky to be able to adopt him. Someone else was going to see him but didn't want to wait until his foster carer was available so I got a call to say was I still interested. Daft question! He rubbed around my ankles and bit DH and the rest is history! The funny part was when the foster carer asked if we wanted him he went and sat in the hall and only came back when we said yes.

Oh that fluffy tum!!

KittyLover91 · 05/07/2017 15:53

People who say stuff like that are just arseholes.

My Bailey turned a year old last month and ever since ive had him ive had montly vet trips and 2 referrals one for breathing issues and the 2nd after he was hit by a car. In between that hes been bitten twice on 2 separate occasions and had issues with overactive sebaceous glands giving him a very greasy tail!

After the accident last month though we decided to take the plunge and cat proof our garden and none of us could cope with the worry and stress of something serious happening to him.

He has cost me an absolute fortune and maxed out his insurance but i wouldnt change a thing and would do whatever i needed to in order to get him the care he needed! Smile

KittyLover91 · 05/07/2017 16:05

Here's my beautiful Bailey 💙

KittyLover91 · 05/07/2017 16:07

@PinkSparklyPussyCat Harry is beautiful! How did he break his jaw?

cozietoesie · 05/07/2017 16:13

Bailey has a sort of .......jovial look to him. Is he a bit of a funster? Smile
