My boy is at the vets indefinitely...

...and I don't know if/when he'll come home.

Rescued him from a chaotic home aged 7 weeks old (siblings died/mother rejected him). We didn't know he was a Maine coon til he grew. I slept with him for the first month because he was desperate for contact. He was a teeny dot of a thing.

Now he's 3 years old, 7.5kg and in the vets with a vestibular problem that started suddenly this morning. I visited him this afternoon - the vet/nurses are lovely, but he was in a room with dogs and panting with distress. I want to bring him home. They don't know when he can leave. If it's a tumor, I guess he might not.

I love him. I don't *do this about cats (we have several) but he was my baby kitten for so long. I just want him home.

Oh how awful for you and him. Is that a neurological thing? I don't have any advice I'm sorry.
It's horrible when they're so ill. Our cat was seriously ill a couple of years ago and was away for a time and it's awful. I cried buckets.
I hope the vets can help your boy. Look after yourself Flowers

Oh no :-(

valeriej43 · 27/06/2017 22:06

So sorry for you,i had to have my bengal cat pts in January,it was heartbreaking, she was 14, 2 weeks before that one of my cats [ragdoll] had a heart attack, but had been on medication for almost a year
I dont know why your cat has been put in with dogs,it must be really stressful for him,
Why have the vets kept him in, have the vets said what the outcome is likely to be
Hoping you can have him home soon
Not sure what vestibular probles are, could it be a heart thing
I will look it up

Oh Veeny I'm so sorry. He is in the right place for now. Keeping it all crossed that they can help and he will be home soon. Flowers

Ah, thank you all Flowers Sorry, it's a neurological thing, which came on overnight. Severe dizziness, unable to stand up, eyes darting all over the place.

I don't know why he's in with dogs. This isn't our regular vet - Out-of-hours you call a number and go to whichever vet is on-call that night. It didn't seem sensible to move him once they were treating him.

I'll go see him again this morning, and MrVeeny is cutting short his business trip and coming home at lunchtime. He speaks better German than me ( live in Switzerland) so hopefully he'll get more of an update when he visits this afternoon.

Thanks again - it really helps having a space to be sad about this! My friends are good, but I'm sure they're thinking, 'He's only a cat...'

He is most definitely "only a cat" he's your furbaby and an important member of your family.

So pleased to hear your DH is cutting short his trip - that's really sweet. Could he ask them why DC is in with dogs, and would it be possible to move him to another room if he has to stay?

We'll keep all our fingers, claws and webbed feet crossed for him that he's home soon. xxx
