My poor cat has a blocked bladder :(

Just dropped him off to be admitted to the emergency vets. Vet says his bladder is blocked, and they have to keep him in a few days.
I understand it's a common thing with male cats, and he's in good hands, but I worry about him. I lost my other cat a couple of months ago, and I don't want to lose him too.
Does anyone else have experience of this problem? I'm not sure what to expect, he's always been healthy (he's 2 in August).

They ran blood tests and his kidneys were fine. He's home now, he's peed a few times, including in his basket on the way home, but I was too pleased that he peed to be bothered.
I cleaned his litter tray, and he normally 'christens' it as soon as I put clean litter in it, which he did.

He's also been drinking from the tap.
We need to get him a water fountain tomorrow.
He's doing well, I've just fed him some of his special food, and given him his medication.
They've given him Hills S/D canned food. I bought a few cans from the vets to tide me over until I order some online.
Can anyone recommend a brand? I also want to get him some dry food to leave down.
It's so lovely to have him home, meowing at me. I think he's after going out, but he's got no chance!
How's yours doing, @CrikeyPeg?

Fiona, how's yours doing? Hope he is still trundling along nicely :)

Safe now for us to say our boy is now home and out of the woods after giving us a further few days of worry!
