Hi. We have two male kittens 18 weeks old now. We got them at eight weeks and they were litter trained. Couple of incidents of weeing on the carpet at first but expected that then over the last month or so they've both started weeing and pooing on the carpets in our living room and dining room.

They have three easily accessible litter trays which are regularly cleaned. And they are well away from the food dishes.

We've tried the sprays to clean the carpet which are also supposed to neutralise the smell and keep them away, we've tried zoflora on the affected patches.

Tonight one has had a poo in the dining room and the other a wee in the living room. Help please. Does anyone have any miracle ways of how we can stop them doing this? Thank you Sad

Weeing can be a sign of UTI.
Vet check and for now restrict their access to the house.
Neutering soon or done already? I can't remember what age kittens are done at!

Not a miracle, but some common issues are not liking the actual litter you use, trays near noisy appliances/too near food. Some cats will settle if you give them a covered tray.

Less likely to be uti because both have it and they're pooing too, but maybe ask vet.

Some people find a feliway diffuser can help with such issues.

Thank you for your reply. They haven't been neutered yet. Was planning to check age and get it done next month if vet says it was ok. Will take to the vet and get the neutering booked in.

Yy to preferring certain litter. Are they on the same stuff they were on as baby kittens? Worth a check.
Poo could be a stress sign? Can you use feliway on ones so young?

Bonosglasses · 22/06/2017 23:05

They've had the same litter all the way through but it's worth a look at. Food is well away from litter and the litter trays aren't near anything noisy. Think it's a trip to the vet.

Feliway can be used at all ages - especially 'friends' which has a synthetic version of maternal hormones.

Neutering at 4-6 months according to my vet, shouldn't affect regular weeing, but can stop spraying.

And confining to 2 rooms until they get the hang of it might help

The only thing that I've found works when one of mine were on the sofa is to block access to that particular spot. None of the urine sprays worked for us. Try a pet remedy diffuser if feliway doesn't work. I found it much more effective. Although it smells.

Feliway actually just gets my Cookie overexcited! It seems to make her think there are new cat friends around and she goes searching the house.

I'd check for a UTI, then change litter to ultra clumping.

I think neutering and letting them out will be the answer though.

You can buy a spray that neutralises the smell of the wee and poo, you need one that breaks down the enzymes otherwise they will just keep returning to the same spot. I have used this one successfully
