Adopting cat question

Can any cat rescue people help with this question please? We haven't been able to adopt before because we were living in a small rented flat. Now we have just bought a lovely house (squeeee!) with a garden.

But there is a big building site really close to the house - building should be over by spring and that's how we could afford it. Is it best to a. Wait until all the building is over b. Get an indoor only cat or cats, perhaps ones with FIV, blind, deaf etc or c. Get the cats you fall in love with anyway, as the building site is quite loud so they won't go near it?

Exciting! Is cat proofing your garden an option? DH recently did ours and it's such a relief to know the cat can't get out.

Failing that, do you know how long the building work will be going on for?

If you would be happy to I would say adopt a special needs cat. We adopted an epileptic cat as we really needed an indoor cat due to our location. This is based purely on the fact they are very hard to place if you don't feel you can provide a home for a special needs cat then I would wait until the building work is over.

Hiya, building work will be over by spring and yes could catproof garden. As it happens, a rescue down the road from my sister has a Maine Coon who is used to being an indoor cat. She isn't special needs but has always been a home cat and sounds friendly and affectionate. Its a big house - plenty of space even for a MC! But would she get unhappy and lonely as a sole cat whilst I work? I am WOHM 3 days a week so there would be no one home 8.30-4.00 3 days a week. I really want a CST to be happy and although I like MCs, I am not overly hung up on a pedigree - just want a happy, family pet!

being as she is an adult cat she will be quite happy in the house on her own just provide lots of toys and cat towers to keep her amused, cats are crepuscular which means they are most active at sun up and sunset so she will probably sleep most of the day any way, andthen when the building work stops maybe look at cat proofing your garden to give her a bit of freedom outdoors, either an outdoor run or cat fencing which faces into your garden

Yay! They are happy with us so we have reserved her! Does anyone need pictures?

Oh my! She's gorgeous. Cats often aren't keen on sharing their space. We have sisters. One hisses if the other gets too close and she isn't in the mood. Luckily we have lots of space and they can both have their own turf whilst she's being mardy!
When we had our first cats I worked full time. They stayed in all day and then played all evening. Cuddles before bedtime!
Enjoy!
