Vomiting kitten

My little 9 week old baby cat has started vomiting in the last 24 hours. Little bit less playful, but still wanting his food, normal cat poo and wee, no tummy pain (did a makeshift cat exam based on my human doctoring skills).

Chews everything, but we're really careful about ingestion.

Seeing vet at 10.30. I'm working so DP is taking him.

I'm pathetically worried and I love the little furball and if anyone can reassure me or give me any positive stories it'd be great because I love him.

Help!

How much has he vomited? And what (bile, undigested food or something else)?

I'm pretty laid back about vomiting cats, as mine is sick on a regular basis, but it is more worrying in a young kitten. I'm presuming he's not going outside, so is unlikely to have been eating grass. What's he like with his food? Is he a bolter? (If mine eats too quickly it tends to come back up very quickly).

IMO the fact that he seems fine in himself is good news.

Hopefully it's nothing serious and he'll be back home soon causing chaos (of the sort only young kittens can create!). At which point you'll need to supply photos (it's the Litter Tray law)!!!!!

Let us know what the vet says, please.

TheCatOfAthenry · 09/06/2017 09:16

Still indoors, has been a great eater. I did give him a few bottles in the earlier days, but eats perfectly now.

Mainly just clear fluid. A few little chicken chunks a few hours after eating last night.

Think he's fine, but fussing all the same.

There shall be many photos. Grin

Maybe kitty needs grass regularly. One of my cats is more of a grass eater than the other 2, but she's mostly an indoor cat, so I have to grab some grass from the garden for her on a regular basis.

Your vet will make her right again.

What "variety" is she?

Toddlerteaplease · 09/06/2017 10:19

If he was a human child we wouldn't bat an eyelid that they've vomited. But because they are cats we panic even if they just do it once! They have us truly under the paw!

TheCatOfAthenry · 09/06/2017 10:24

@Toddlerteaplease that is so very true!

To those asking, he's a black, slightly fuzzy moggy. I think hair ball is less likely because Cookie washes him most of the time.

We do have special cat grass that I might introduce...

Omg too cute!

caffeinestream · 09/06/2017 10:39

It's possible he just ate too quickly, or ate and then charged around afterwards.

My old cat cat was guilty of doing that least once a week. There was nothing wrong with him - he was just greedy!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 09/06/2017 11:28

Such a sweetie!

He should be pleased with how well training is going. He only has to throw up liquid and he has you both running around after him. My congratulations to him!

MikeUniformMike · 09/06/2017 11:33

What is the little cutie's name?

Toddlerteaplease · 09/06/2017 11:42

What did the vet say?

TheCatOfAthenry · 09/06/2017 11:46

He's Biscuit and his sister is Cookie!

Back from vet, vomiting not a concern but still malnourished from a tough start in life.

They seemed to originally think malnutrition had occurred with us, but gained 150g a week at least and gone from wiry to shiny in our care (DP thought we gave him adult food, we just give both a complete food, so they got wrong idea). He eats like a horse. Very unlike me, but made a quick call to set record straight! Blush

That said, they wormed again and gave a shot of abx and special food for a few days. I'll try him on a new one too next week just in case.

Photos show growth in last 3 weeks.

Biscuit is such a cutie, and has definitely grown.

Am not surprised you rang them to set the record straight! Glad they saw him and don't think it's anything serious. Hope he doesn't turn his nose up the the special food (make sure you tell him how expensive it was!).

You do realise you need to supply photos of Cookie now, too, don't you?

TheCatOfAthenry · 09/06/2017 15:37

MN tells me I've posted enough images for the day - will show some Cookie pics soon.

I hate it when it says that. You can never have too many pictures of cats!

TheCatOfAthenry · 09/06/2017 18:35

I'm told the vet said he looked inbred. Confused Sounds like she was a little rough with him and didn't even ask about what had happened or where we got him. (They'd have heard how he came to us underweight and had massively plumped up since, even had kitten milk supplements for a while, and has developed a fabulous personality.)

Bought a grain free kitten food so both can share, and he's much better, but the food suited him great for a month and I don't think he developed a sudden intolerance.

Either way, better safe than sorry. Just I'd be struck off if I spoke to people like she spoke to DP. Grin#possiblyoversensitive

Sorry. No advice but. He's gorgeous.

TheCatOfAthenry · 09/06/2017 20:07

He is!

And he has a big fuzzy bottom.

He's a heartbreaker - spitting image of mine as a kitten. Had him from being 3 weeks and is now the snuggliest, most human little boy cat in the world.

My tabby used to and still regurgitates fairly regularly. My vet just thinks some kittens/cats have more sensitive stomachs - a bit like some humans.

Just change vets , there is so much choice now just find one you do like . Kitten is very cute .

TheCatOfAthenry · 10/06/2017 08:48

Thanks so much everyone. @RedMetamorphosis yours is a beauty.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/06/2017 13:15

Mine vomited as a kitten if I gave him cereals, he's on grain free wet food now & only sicks up if he's eaten grass for unknown cat reasons.

My DM was furious once because the vet accused us of not feeding one of ours. She'd had cat flu as a kit & it had stunted her growth. Her brother was 14lb so she did look small by comparison.

I have known people only feed kittens twice a day so not everyone gets it right, I just fed mine when he asked because he was growing so fast I figured he'd need a lot of food.

TheCatOfAthenry · 10/06/2017 13:33

I always go grain free because it makes older cat sick. Always has access to food.

Last night, I did confirm he has at least doubled in size - put him next to a toy cat he matched on arrival!
