Harry is back at the vet today for an x-ray on his jaw. DH dropped him off this morning with his lunch and one of his favourite toys and I'm collecting him tonight.

I'm worried what they are going to find. I know we need to know what's going on with his jaw but I'm worried they'll find something sinister otherwise surely it would have healed by now. His x-rays will be reviewed by an orthopaedic vet and then they'll decide what needs to be done. We're only going to have something done if it's essential or will make a huge difference to him but we need to know what's wrong so we can manage it.

Sorry, I'm rambling, I'm feeling like the meanest cat slave on earth at the moment!

Omg those pictures made me laugh out loud. Gorgeous boy! Hopefully that is positive news.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 22/05/2017 21:36

What a lovely cat.

He's very lucky to have such loving and caring owners too. It makes me very sad to think.about all the unloved and neglected cats that don't have tuna in sauce and a snuggle blanket, never mind proper veterinary attention.

My three girls with fur are currently lazing on the back of the sofa gazing laconically at me after leftover roast chicken. Despite two of them having a fair few gangsters out last year they're still prize choppers. I'm too soft.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 22/05/2017 21:41

Gnashers not gangsters although perhaps there's something they're not telling me .....

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/05/2017 21:56

I was trying to work that one out Gin! Thanks for your kind words, we'd both do anything for the furry reprobate but it's so hard knowing whether or not we're doing the right thing for him.

I felt that i was pushing for surgery as I worried so much about leaving her. And was it right, because it was more for my sake than hers. But I knew it was right and when the vet found out I work long hours and it was actually the third time it had occurred he agreed it was right. Two vets in different practices also said it was the only thing to do. Doesn't stop you worrying though. If only we could explain it to them!

Reow · 22/05/2017 22:11

Oh bless him. Tell him he's a big brave boy from me.

Dare I ask if he has pet insurance OP? Is his treatment covered?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/05/2017 22:31

It's so hard Toddler, if only we could make them understand! He's still wiped out, he's never been this bad before and I worry that another anaesthetic could be too much for him.

He does have pet insurance thankfully. We have to to pay 20% of any claims, as well as his standard excess, due to his age but it's better than finding the full amount! Last year the fees were over £3k and I dread to think what it'll be if he is referred. He's worth every penny though.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/05/2017 22:43

All keeping our paws crossed for him. It could be that they've used different anaesthetic drugs and that's why he's still very sleepy. He'll hopefully walks up about 3am and announce that since he's awake. You must be too!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/05/2017 07:09

You were nearly right Toddler, he was much better by 2am! He didn't come in and wake us surprisingly but he was asleep on the back of the sofa. He got down to accompany me to the bathroom and seems a lot brighter this morning.

I think he views taking me to the loo as his duty as he even staggered in there with me last night when he could hardly walk. God I love this cat!

Aww bless. Maia's duty is to escort me from the shower to the bedroom. She just sat on the landing and wouldn't move this morning. Wouldn't t eat dreemies. But then sat on my knee purring. Hope she's ok. Only on a half day today so will check on her later.

Weedsnseeds1 · 23/05/2017 07:49

More a snaggletooth tiger than sabre toothed, but it's the attitude that counts!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/05/2017 09:04

He's my gummy bear Weeds!

I hope Maia is OK Toddler, let us know later.

Don't be rude, Weeds!! Maia is most offended on Harry's behalf. She says he has a fine set of fangs.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/05/2017 09:33

He did once Toddler, sadly they are no more. He still has the next ones back though and he uses them to good effect!

Thank you to Maia on Harry's behalf!

Harry has had a little bit of good news this morning. He is due to have his annual jabs in 2 weeks time so I asked if they could be done yesterday. For various reasons he couldn't have them but the vet has confirmed there is a three month grace period before they have to be done so I won't have to take him immediately! I'll probably book him in in August sometime, but at least it means I won't have to stress him out again for a while.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/05/2017 14:13

Maia was due hers at her post op check. The vet wanted to wait but I persuaded her to do them then so I didn't have to bring her out again. Though they cost double the price if the usual place I go to.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/05/2017 19:28

Maia seems ok. I think I'm just being neurotic. The food bowl is practically empty, she's popped outside and is now sitting on my knee having a vigorous wash. Can breath again! How's Harry today?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/05/2017 20:28

Glad she seems ok. I'm sure they do it deliberately just to worry us!

Harry seems much better today thankfully. We've just got to wait for the X rays to be reviewed and I'm no good at waiting!

We've now got to try and get a urine sample from him. I picked up the non absorbing litter tonight and let's just say I'm not confident it's going to work. Harry has a very large litter tray and they've given me a bag the size of a sandwich bag! I'm no longer worrying about his kidneys though as the vet has said it's not urgent and to just try and get a sample. DH should be home a lot of next week so he's going to be on wee duty!

I've always used the 'saucer under backside' technique with ordinary litter. It's not failed me yet. Smile

Vinorosso74 · 23/05/2017 21:10

Oh the dreaded Katcor..... Vinocat isn't too picky with cat litter but she does not like that. Using the dropper supplied I had to get the urine sample off the floor instead. Luckily it was just to check for ketones not checking for bacteria!

Toddlerteaplease · 23/05/2017 21:13

I got some of that, my litter tray is also huge. No way would they have used it with that in!

Wolfiefan · 23/05/2017 21:16

Oh bless him! Good luck with the Katcor.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/05/2017 22:45

How's he doing today?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/05/2017 08:55

He's doing OK thanks, eating as though he'd been starved for a week and he seems back to normal. We haven't tried collecting a sample yet but I've ordered a couple more bags of Katkor from Amazon ready for Operation Cat Wee to commence next week. I am also going to look in the charity shops in town at the weekend for a saucer so DH can try Cozie's method!

I'm just waiting for the vet to phone back with the x ray results now, but she did say it would be a few days. Doesn't she realise I won't calm down until I know?!
