Ex-Ferals - a whole year in

Well I've had my ex-Ferals a whole year now, give or take a few days, and in general I find it hard to believe how well they have done. From a pair of terrified kitties that lived under and IN the sofa for the first few days, to a couple of amazing cats that can be very demanding for their cuddles.

Boycat is still much more timid than Girlcat, and since the incident of the visit to the vet for their check-ups & annual jabs he still hides in the wardrobe when anyone apart from me comes into the house. However when it's just me he will march up to me making little squeaking noises until I stroke his head, then jump up onto his seat on the sofa and start kneading the throw. This is my cue to move and sit next to him & start with head rubs, then move down to bury my fingers in his belly floof. After a few moments it feels like the whole sofa is trembling with his purring, though I don't particularly enjoy the fact he dribbles constantly during the process. I have even managed to clip a few of his claws during cuddles though never more than one at a time as it makes him panic for a couple of minutes. He's soon back after more tummy massaging though!

He has finally, just in the last few days, worked out how to get on the windowsill and loudly proclaims this to me so I can praise him (though not allowed near him when he is up there).

Girlcat has always been ahead of him for trying new things, but her cuddles have to take place on the floor at my feet (which my bad back doesn't really appreciate), or if I catch the moment right when she is lying on my bed during the day. She doesn't sound like she is purring, but I can feel her throat vibrate with it; luckily she doesn't dribble like he does! She's a very happy kitty now the warmer wealth is here, as she can sit next to the open window & chat to her boyfriend from over the road through the Flat Cat screen - they were making very cute gentle whirring noises to each other yesterday.

She's very good about being picked up, and sometimes even stays on my lap for up to a minute or so (boycat gets hysteric if I try to pick him up still).

They both know the daily routine and get very insistent if I stay up more than 20 mins or so past my usual time, or take a few minutes longer before coming down in the mornings. I'm not supposed to spend time on the PC in the study for more than a few minutes at a time when they are downstairs, or I get some very indignant noises and The Stare from the doorway until I move and join them.

So all in all I think we have a very happy household now. We all know our places (mine is there to cater to their every whim of course) and thinking back on it I feel that it was definitely a good choice by them to come to live with me - I, of course, am totally besotted still & can't imagine life without them.

I have a feral too. She's 2 this month (give or take 3 weeks on either side). She's a wee demanding madam too, purrs constantly, but is still very anxious. She sits in the crook of my arm with her head on my shoulder and likes to be jiggled. Unless you sneeze or twitch. Then she's off!

That's fantastic, they've done so well Star

Sorry Spartacus, my mobile has decided it won't talk to my PC any more, or any PC/Mac for that matter Sad. So no pictures I'm afraid.

Sooo jealous of you Emily, I think I've managed a whole 45 seconds of real actual cuddle with Girlcat, and I only have to think of picking up Boycat and he runs away having hysterics. Plus I don't think my back would cope with picking Boycat up, he's quite a big lump now Grin.
