A dead mouse, being flung all over your bedroom at 3:20am.

Getting mouse guts on your brand new white company bedlinen.

You are both humbly welcome!

no cat flap in this house for that very reason. THey can come and go whenever they ask but if they're out, they're out until they show their vermin free face at the window / door. I used to suffer terribly with the live mice which were brought in and then had to be caught in a saucepan and walked to the park (only to return, soggy from cat spit, a few days later). Those b*ggers can really jump high.

Leroy killed a large mouse/small rat a couple of days ago. He's a house cat, we were out on one of our walks. So he was on a lead. Rodent stood no chance, he'd got it, batted it and killed it by the time I'd realised what was happening 😱.

We're not going that way again.

We were eating dinner on Friday night when DP looked across the room and warned me not to look round. Of course I looked and was greeted with the sight of a dead baby rabbit which Rascal cat had proudly dragged through the open door. Luckily DP disposed of the carcass (I do spider disposal in this house) but it put me right off my falafels. Rascal cat spent the rest of the evening sniffing around wondering where his fresh kill had disappeared to.

Mine are not generally allowed out at night either, and if they are not in, idiotcat likes to sneak out after curfew, they only have the porch to come into so no bedside gifties for us!

My first two cats were UltimateHuntingMachines, and like the Kray Twins with regard to their territory, barely a day went by without a minimum of one dead critter. The peak of their triumph was a weasel, but crows, magpies, rabbits all featured highly!

Current cats are not that good in comparison, maybe half a dozen things a month through the summer??

GinGeum · 12/06/2017 11:20

GinCat is allowed out all night, but waits until after his breakfast to go out and hunt something. It's the same every day - eat breakfast, click of the cat flap going out, click of the cat flap coming in a few minutes later, and then the lovely sound of a skull being crunched...

He continues this throughout the day, until about 3 or so hours before dinner time where he will sit in the kitchen waiting not so patiently. It's like he only hunts when there's definitely no other food option likely to happen Grin

More gifts! This time a screaming starling and 2 mice. All in the space of 6 hours! He must really love us or think we're really shot providers!

Now I've let him outside to come and go as he pleases how do I keep him in at night to help reduce these gifts at night????

Mine has escalated to afternoon hunting, so not sure keeping them in at night makes any difference. He hurls himself at the windows if defied in his desire to go out and at 7Kg he's probably capable of breaking them too.

Lolimax · 22/06/2017 14:00

My boy excelled himself this morning. A very large and very much alive crow was brought in. Thankfully DS was at home to chase said bird around the house. It made a bid for freedom once it came near the hall and we opened the front door. Cat wasn't impressed!

Lonecatwithkitten · 22/06/2017 14:09

Waking you at 1.30am, because the fan you went out and purchased me at 10.30pm because I claimed I was going to expire due to the heat is now making me too cold.
Bentley cat I am looking at you. (For regulars I have not acquired a new cat this is my stepcat). DP is the sucker who went to Asda at 10.30pm.
