We have the most gorgeous little foster cat pregnant with 4/5 kittens. When she came on Friday I thought she was the most pregnant looking thing I'd ever seen in my life (and I work with pregnant women) and that she must be about to give birth but no sign yet.
She's very relaxed in our spare room and is still eating loads and using the litter tray, we got excited last night because she was licking herself but it appears that was just a bath. She is MASSIVE poor thing.

Let's have a pool. When do you think she'll give birth?

Aaww beautiful! How are mum and kittens doing?

Weedsnseeds1 · 19/05/2017 23:21

Are there only 5? I keep counting 6, but maybe getting heads and bottoms confused!

Highalert · 19/05/2017 23:26

Aww look at the tiny kittens.

ElizaDontlittle · 21/05/2017 20:00

Any chance of a kitten photo update? I hope you and they are getting on really well.

Sorry about the radio silence (no photos) everyone.

We've had a stressful time, the next night after they were born the Mamma decided to move them from the very comfortable and safe box they were born in and move them to a pile of cushions behind the blanket chest where we can't see them and she's been very aggressive with us when we've come into the room.
The Mamma cat is a foster and was only with us for a week before she gave birth and she's just trying to protect her babies, she doesn't think humans are to be trusted and that's understandable considering what she's been through.

We've just been showing her lots of patience and keeping everything very calm, quiet and consistent with her hoping to build up some trust with her.

She's calmed down loads and will come over and have a sniff and a stroke when we feed her and we're really pleased with the progress but in the stress we haven't managed to get any more pictures.

Poor wee soul it breaks my heart.

Ah the poor wee thing! Sending catty thoughts your way. X

Oh no - I'm sorry if I was a pain for asking. I'm glad you've updated us though - I'm sure it's really understandable and I hope she settles and they are doing well even in hiding! I hope someone will give her a forever home that allows her to continue learning to trust humans - sounds like you're doing a great thing OP.

SentientCushion · 21/05/2017 23:15

No it's fine! I'm itching for photos too lol
We can hear them in their nest meeping away for milk and we managed to shine a torch in and saw a big pile of wriggling kitties tonight so we are feeling a lot better and just having to trust that Mamma knows best.
It's a learning curve because I am not good at giving up control Blush

As soon as I can I'll post a picture!

they certainly do what THEY want don't they! I had to turf out my own wardrobe drawer for mine to nest in, and be warned that when the kittens are old enough she will decide its time to move them again to somewhere they can pee and poo for themselves and move about a bit more.

I would suggest preparing a box for that now in plenty of time. Nearly lost one of ours in this move, i had let her have her way completely with the original nest, but hadn't been prepared for a sudden family move! worked out in the end and they were sooo much fun. they tend to manage it all themselves and, sigh, as is usual with dcats we are just their minions along for the ride!

SentientCushion · 25/05/2017 10:14

Thats a brilliant piece of advice, what do you think would be good for an older kitten nest?

I think I just put a box with same 'nesting materials' under our breakfast bar, which is closer to the back door/litter tray and outside. mum started to come and go more frequently and could easily hop in and out to check on them/feed and leave them safely. its in the corner of the kitchen, a darker corner, you can cut out a section of the box for them to climb out of when they are big enough and to get to the litter tray or large enough to put small area of litter in with them once they are big enough.

Shriek · 25/05/2017 22:40

if i remember right, you will probs have just a couple or so weeks till she'll deem the move necessary!
