My cat 9 months old got knocked down this afternoon, the person stopped and called my neighbour who knew was my cat, brought him to vet he was dragging his back legs, vet said he's bad thinks pelvis and tail broken but could only tell by X-ray cat was in shock so couldn't X-ray he had perked up a bit vet said was my call he wouldn't hold out much hope I didn't know what to do he also said that he'd lost his bowel function my adult so no was with me he adores animals he asked to give him a chance the vet gave him painkiller and putting him in an oxygen tent stay for the night has anyone any advise I don't want to leave him suffering I suppose he won't as he'll have pain killers but if his bowel function is gone the vet said that's something they can't fix, he has seen young cats come ok from looking like him but not if bowel function is gone he put something up the cat and he said he didn't clench I was hoping cause he was in shock has anyone had any of this I'm really upset I looked after the cats kept them in at night and he still got knocked down.

I'm so sorry to hear about your poor boy Flowers. I lost mine recently too, he was also hit by a car but in the morning. We worry about roads but he would never have been happy as an indoor cat and had a happy life. I do wish car drivers would slow down on long roads though. Sad

Im so sorry, OP.
I've just lost one of mine in the same way. We live on a quiet cul de sac too. I suspect she got run over on the neighbour's driveway. Rushed her to the vets, where i was told she had a spinal injury. She had no feeling in her back legs whatsoever. The vet said they see it a lot and and she would likely have internal injuries too. I had to have her PTS. At least she wasn't in pain, she was still in shock.
She was only six, I'm so gutted :(
I have a younger cat, who I'm nervous to let out, I kept him in for a few days.
I do want to get a second cat

Oh bobdy that's so sad. We went throught something similar recently which I'll share if it might help

We had 2 sisters who were very close. Did the same thing as you, neutered/chipped/in at night. Sadly one of the sisters was run over when they were only just 1 year old. She died straight away.
We stopped letting our other cat, Freya, out unsupervised and got a harness for her. She hated it at first and still isn't overly keen but it gets her some fresh air. We put her outside in a big crate on nice days.

About 3-4 months after Freya's sister died we got a female kitten. It was REALLY difficult at first and we weren't sure if they were going to get along at all, but after about 6 weeks things settled and now the kitten is 4 months old, Freya is 18 months old and they're getting on grand. Freya seems generally more relaxed and doesn't clamour for our attention as much as she did after her sister died, she's back to being her normal self. Maybe that's time or maybe the kitten helped. Either way they definitely entertain each other.

We are now in the process of building a "catio" outside- google for some pitctures, it's basically an enclosed bit of garden. We will have our catflap open out into it, so they'll have outdoor access 24/7 and nice plants and bushes in there too. We're doing it ourselves as we struggled to find a company to do it, but there seem to be a number operating in England so you wouldn't have to make it yourself. Best of both worlds I think- safety and outdoor access. Our vet thought it was a really good plan and said his own garden which is flat is completely cat-proofed so they can't get over the fences.

Thank you for all the replies,I'm seriously considering a catio it looks ideal we've a large garden detached house could put it at the side of the house my female cats actually not interested in being outside the last few days goes out for. Short while then comes in and lays around she's very focal still just looks like me and bawls as if to say where's bob (cat was called bob Dylan) my sons very handy so he'd be able to make a catio I'll let you know how things go thank you all.

Best of luck with your catio, OP, hope your kitty likes it!
My remaining cat keeps having mad spells in the evening, which he never did before. My cat that passed never played with him, in fact she just about tolerated him. But I think he enjoyed tormenting her, he's got nothing to entertain him now :(
I'm trying to play with him more, but I think he would benefit from a companion, especially since we're keeping him in a lot more. We are waiting awhile though, until we've moved house.
