Cat D and V - when to go to vets?

Evening all, question from inexperienced cat owners I'm afraid...

Our 1 year old boy has recently taken to vomiting up his food on occasion for just over a week and my DH has just been clearing up some diarrhoea from the living room carpet (first instance).

He's just started (as far as we know) starting to catch and eat mice (pretty obvious from first lot of vomit - sorry if TMI) so we assumed he'd given himself a funny tummy and it would sort itself out, but it hasn't yet.

Any suggestions or advice on when we should take him to a vet?

Thanks.

If he's hunting he needs worming monthly. Has he been wormed?.

MilesHuntsWig · 02/05/2017 22:09

Ah good point, pre-hunting we thought he'd be ok with the flea drops, I guess he needs the tablets now doesn't he. Thanks, will get on it.

I should point out we were advised that the flea drops protect against most worms too.

You need to worm him too. Flea spot on won't do worms as well.

Advocate protects against most types of worms but not all, so you will also need to worm him. The one we use is every 3-6 months though. Works very well on our hunting kitties :3

Yeah you need mega worming. We got the hardcore worm tablets from the vet that you have to give the cat via an introducer. They said the soft stuff wouldn't be much good for him because he was bringing rats/mice/voles home on a daily basis.

Or he may have a bug? Worth taking him in either way to have him checked over to be safe.

Worm him as soon as you can. Bearing in mind he hasn't been quite right for a few days, if diarrhoea continues into tomorrow, I think I'd get the vet to check he's ok and not dehydrated. If you haven't got a tablet down him by then, the vet will easily do it for you.

Thanks guys we managed to get a worming tablet from the vet down him today (wow that was a challenge!) and have kept him on super plain food. Will keep an eye on him.

Really appreciate the advice.
