When did your kitten 'become' a cat?

My gorgeous boy is 9 months old - at some angles I can see him looking more like a grown up cat but at others (and especially photos) he's still got that tiny kitten look about him.

He is so so active - plays for probably 8 hours solidly every day, but often more. He tends to get into bed at 10.30pm and when I wake up in the morning he's still there - then he's go go go charging around for hours on end.

So, when did your kittens become grown ups?!

Never!!! They were always my baby kittens!

That's not actually that daft - it's been shown that even adult cats stay in kittenhood around their owners and never fully mature like men with their own mums Grin.

I can't actually remember. I think looks-wise about 1 year & behaviour-wise they start to calm down around age 2, but they're still quite playful for a few years.

He is gorgeous and looks very comfortable his bed.

Lovely! Still looking like a baby in that pic. I'm sure he's a glorious lion on the inside though Grin

I still think of my younger cat as being a kitten, and he'll be 2 in August. We got him at 10 weeks old, and it still call him 'little one' even though he's a tiny bit taller and heavier than my older female cat.
He still acts like a kitten sometimes, he likes to stalk the other cat and pounce on her when he first sees her, she's very vocal in her distaste. I'm sure he does it because he thinks it is funny.

Our kitten is 10 months old and looks-wide most definitely looks like a cat now. He's very kittenish in behaviour still and I'd expect him to be for at least another year. I noticed the other day he's just overtaken our other adult cat in size, she is tiny though.

That's really interesting, YesItsMeIDontCare - my lass is now 7 and still, occasionally come running up to me kitten-style, with her four legs almost locked straight and sort of bouncing along.

As for OP, she was probably about 18 months / 2 years before she totally filled out. Now she's filled out a little too much - whoops!

Fiona1984 · 02/05/2017 10:43

I got my female cat at age 2 and she's now 6, so she's not grown, but she did become very fluffy in the past year. She's tiny, only 2.7kg and has little legs, but shes turned into a proper fluff ball.

HermioneJeanGranger · 02/05/2017 20:05

Our kitten is 10 months but still really small. She was malnourished when we got her and the vet reckons she'll always be on the small side. Facially she looks more grown-up now but she's still very small!

We have a girl cat who is nearly a year old. We got her when she was 14 weeks old and she was far too grown up to be properly kittenish apart from the ankle biting.

In the way of some females she has always been a cat. She sees our two older boys as eejits and she is somewhat aloof. You can see her looking down her nose at their antics. She's a long black cat and weighs about 4.5kg. She's bigger than one of the boys and does throw her weight around.

If you're not doing things on her terms you'll get nipped to put you in your place. We should have called her Gnasher...

This is the reprobate looking like the queen of her kingdom.

Mine are about the same age. Definitely getting into cat territory but still having daft kitten moments. A bit like a teen who's very cool but likes to play with their littler cousins.

Want2beme · 03/05/2017 09:47

TheLongRider you've captured her look of utter disdain perfectly. That look that instantly puts us in our place(s).

TheLongRider · 03/05/2017 10:32

Oh yes, I'm the bottom of her pecking order alright. In her world there is DD, DH then me and then the other cats. She's not top mog though, she is top female cat and probably wouldn't tolerate another female.

She's almost completely silent apart from chattering at magpies and the occasional purrup at a toy. She doesn't miaow at all, in a year I've heard her mew a handful of times, it's beneath her!

HemanOrSheRa · 03/05/2017 10:38

Frankie is 2 years old this month. He is starting to look like a grown up cat but failing miserably at acting like one Grin. Bless him, he is just so daft I don't think it's ever going to happen!

purple12 · 07/05/2017 09:17

We got Truffle when he was 8 weeks old. I think when he was about 9 or 10 months we noticed him beginning to be a bit more 'cat' like. One of the things that made quite a different though was when he started to go out (he didn't go outside until he was about 10 months - we thought he'd be an indoor cat at first but couldn't resist his crying and now he's definitely and indoor/outdoor cat!). some of the peak kitten tapered off around 18 months and while he hasn't really become a 'lap cat' he is definitely not running around like he was at the beginning! His face really lost it's 'kitten-ness' around 12 - 18 months I think. He brought us his first 'mouse' gift when he was nearly two....
