Where can I get kittens?

I'm a crazy cat lady with lots of experience with cats, and I want to get 2 kittens now. Want kittens so they can grow up with my little one. No rescue places in a huge area around me has any, and nowhere else I find either! I want mix moggies under £100, but they're all reserved Sad previous cats have been free from people I knew, so not sure where to go?

sorry should have said two boy kittens

JJmom16 · 04/05/2017 14:54

Wait for kitten season rescues will be full to the brim of unwanted litters.

Purplebluebird · 04/05/2017 15:02

There are barely anything at my local rescues, hardly any adult cats even. And all the adult cats are "no young children". I just have so much love to give a kitten or two :)

Where are you purplebluebird ? ours are always full.

Purplebluebird · 04/05/2017 15:23

I don't want to say where I am, but I have spoken to all the ones in my catchment area, and the one place I found kittens had a waiting list of 18 people for two kittens! Shock They've gone now obviously, but it's really difficult to find any still.

No problem I've just read all the thread. Rescues will be more than 100 for 2 kittens and I hope people don't give away free kittens anymore not worth the risk.

Purplebluebird · 04/05/2017 15:59

It's definitely not possible to get two kittens for under £100 - I was thinking more under 100 per kitten! :)

That's because it's still a bit too early! Wait another four to six weeks - there will be hundreds. Honestly. Don't pay people who haven't bothered to get their cat spayed. That's just rewarding irresponsibility.

And I know we all keep saying the same thing but just wait a bit longer and you will find loads in rescues.

isseywithcats · 04/05/2017 20:40

ours this week alone has a pregnant mom that they are trying to get transport to foster for, two pregnant moms on sight, nine kittens and 8 older cats that have come from a hoarders house all got ringworm, so thats two pens we cant use for the next 5/6 weeks as the kittens are one litter 5 weeks old one litter 3 weeks old two moms both feeding each others kittens

isseywithcats · 04/05/2017 20:40

that sight is supposed to be on site in the centre lol

Purplebluebird · 04/05/2017 20:49

Wow! :) I will give it some more time!

Ha ha. Excellent Grin

thecatneuterer · 05/05/2017 09:04

Although, to be fair, you could be in one of probably the only places in the country without an overpopulation problem. if you live somewhere very posh that is entirely possible - I just can't imagine anywhere where things are genuinely under control, as things are so very desperate, and so utterly out of control down here in London.

thecatneuterer · 05/05/2017 09:13

I really hope that is the case, and there is somewhere in the country where the cat population is under control. It gives me hope for the rest of the country. We could possibly get there too in say another 50 years. Then there would just be the rest of the world to work on.

MrsEvadneCake · 05/05/2017 09:31

My two were £60 each from cats protection. They were neutered, chipped and had injections.

pumpkinpie5 · 05/05/2017 09:59

We have experienced a later kitten season this year so are just starting to get pregnant mums and kittens. I agree that in six weeks you should be able to find some. Ours are £120 for a pair and that covers vacc's, microchips, flea and worm treatment and 4 weeks insurance. If you pm me I can get you on a list in your area without a problem.

Thingvellir · 05/05/2017 10:02

I'd waitlist with cats protection - we adopted two tortie sisters at 4 months old in Jan and the CP were bloody brilliant! £75 donation per cat and they arrived with all their jabs etc done and a month of free insurance. We paid an additional £25 each for a spaying voucher at our local vets (this may be just a CP initiative in our area as they are supported by the local vets).

I liked the fact that they were really diligent about checking us out as well and they gave great advice and support as we were preparing for the cats' arrival. It's a wonderful organisation.

Thingvellir · 05/05/2017 10:02

Just to add, I registered interest online and they called me back

Tigerblue · 05/05/2017 10:21

It's great you want to take in rescue kittens, but if you can't wait it might be worth looking at noticeboards and post office windows for adverts. Obviously spend your time choosing them if buying from a private home, any decent person giving away their cat's kittens won't mind as they'll want to know your serious and going to a good home. They will probably be under £100, but then you'll have an initial vets assessment, flea treatment, worming, vaccination, neuturing fees but that comes with the cost of owning a cat.

Purplebluebird · 05/05/2017 10:32

Thanks for all the advice! Yes I live in a reasonably well off area (I'm not well of at all Grin), so might be that it's actually under control here. None of the rescues have said they will get in loads, they just tell me they might get some soon. It's such a good "deal" though with the rescues, with vaccines and everything, compared to paying £100 for a cat privately.

Are you in North London? I just rang Cats Protection on the off chance and they have one 9 week tabby girl, which is what i have already so i was excited. They were excited until they heard I had a ten month old kitten then inbwas a big fat No -Sad its not easy to rescue one. Ive given up now.

Purplebluebird · 05/05/2017 12:30

No, I'm not I'm afraid! Will they not let you adopt a kitten if you already have a cat @EachandEveryone ?

OP posts:
EachandEveryone · 05/05/2017 14:02

They are really picky I guess it's because everyone wants kittens

MrsEvadneCake · 05/05/2017 18:57

To be fair I think it differs. I have two adult cats (4&3) and then had the kittens.

thecatneuterer · 05/05/2017 19:19

We certainly give kittens to people with adult cats. But we only home small kittens in pairs as they need either their mother or a litter mate for company and to feel secure. But we would certainly home two small kitten to someone with adult cats.
