Weird things your cats eat

I have two cats. One is normal and likes meat, cat food, that kind of thing.
The other will eat anything. She likes meat & cat food, but also loves bread. Any sort of bread, she is not fussy. She also eats raw pastry, cooked pastry, any vegetable, and porridge oats (raw or cooked, she doesn't care). My kitchen is locked up tighter than Fort Knox as she will steal stuff if she can.
Do your cats eat odd stuff? Please tell me, it will make me feel less weirded out about mine :)

Current cats aren't too food motivated. Girl cat likes the dregs from the tomato can. Loves Greek yogurt and will do saucer eyes at my DH until he gives her some. She doesn't mew in principle, and looks offended if you suggest that she might have to ask. Two cats like raw egg. All of them like Bolognese sauce. The only food fluffy boy cat goes crazy for is smoked fish from the fish and chip shop, he'll try and bat it out of my hand.

chemenger · 25/04/2017 12:55

My two rescue boys used to rush out to eat any birdfood that fell on the ground. Heartrendingly I suspect that it is because they were rescued from under someone's garden shed as kittens and may have been eating it then to survive.

MaidenMotherCrone · 25/04/2017 13:04

As we sit down to eat we are always joined by the cats who like to sit on someone's lap and occasionally try to steal anything of a plate. StupidCat likes to lay on someone's lap and a paw will appear trying to locate food. I bought a high chair and 2 of them sit in that and share their own mini version of whatever we are having.

Farmcat1 once came in with something odd hanging out of her backside. Closer inspection found it to be the elastic net from a previous joint of beef. Rightly or wrongly I pulled at it ( gloves donned obvs) and it being elastic it had quite a bit of give in it and it just kept coming. It was a huge mistake as there was splash back 😷.

YetAnotherSpartacus
Of course! I clearly too under the paw to realise it.

I've just stopped half way through vacuuming to put f2f down for a nap and have returned to find scar curled up asleep around the vac. She shares the bloody thing but knows that I won't turn it on and scare her.
I think I unwittingly a member of a controlling relationship! Sad

chemenger · 25/04/2017 15:45

Almost every cat I have ever had has loved olives.

MycatsaPirate · 25/04/2017 15:57

Boy cat loves pineapple chunks

Girl cat 2 surprised me last night, she's the cat that only eats dry food, not interested in anything else at all. I opened a tub of Mango sorbet and she went nuts. I had to sit and hold the tub while she licked the top of it. and yes I ate it afterwards. I showed it to girl cat 3 who took one sniff and recoiled in horror.

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/04/2017 19:22

Old girl ate anything and everything. Current cat on self imposed restrictive diet ( although partial to plastic, but it has to be the crinkly, thin, cellophane type).
Tondalaya the formulations guy at a pet food factory told me that some cats enjoy chilli, as they get a catnip like hit off if it, so curry eating cats are quite normal.

thecatneuterer · 25/04/2017 19:37

Maiden you have to post photos of your cats eating in high chairs!

theotherendofthesockportal · 25/04/2017 19:39

I have to keep my hearing aids in my car over night as my cat hunts them down to lick them - she appears to like my earwax 🤢

The other cat is fond of the cheap vanilla bake tray you can buy from Asda. He will actually leap on to your plate to eat it.

Fruitcocktail6 · 25/04/2017 19:43

Oh I have the most food obsessed cat! She likes bread, pastry, her current fave is green beans (like string beans), she loves the usual like butter and cheese. I've seen her eat a shallot, she once dragged a bag of frozen peas from the kitchen to living room, I don't think she ate any though.

She is not given any of these things btw, but she will go out of her way to get them.

dingit · 25/04/2017 19:44

One of mine used to salivate for Pizza. We used to have to shut her out if we had guests.

Igneococcus · 25/04/2017 19:51

Our cat sits in the garden and chews the mint. I know it's not good for him but the mint is everywhere including the neighbours' gardens.

CoxsOrangePippin · 25/04/2017 19:58

Ours loves his carbs - pastry, raw crumpets, etc. Also cellophane, gazpacho, the juice off baked beans...

Thewinedidit · 25/04/2017 20:00

The mister cat loves crisps. And not just plain ones, last night we shared some Chipotle doritos.

Happyhippy45 · 25/04/2017 20:07

Sadly neither cat of my cats still alive.....
One was fairly normal in eating habits but could break into the fridge and the freezer to allow the other one free reign to steal what she wanted. We had to put child locks on the fridges etc.

She also went nuts for ear wax.
Went nuts for hard boiled eggs.....the yolks in particular, Cheesy wotsits, peas, cheese and frozen raw mince.

She would only drink water from the tap.

She once injured the dog by casually dropping a 2lb bag of frozen mince on his head as he walked by the kitchen counter.

Happyhippy45 · 25/04/2017 20:08

*neither ONE of my cats.

Happyhippy45 · 25/04/2017 20:09

Not something she ate but she'd demolish any cigarettes or cigars left unattended. Not sure what that was all about.

Theresnonamesleft · 25/04/2017 20:20

Pizza, bit only from a certain delivery place.
BBQ chicken. Lettuce. Cucumber. Carrots. Apple. Pringles. Cheese and onion crisps. Cocopops. Ketchup. Red cabbage. The cotton from my curtains, was wondering why there was a hole between the curtain and lining until I saw cat eating it. Flies. Mango. Any meat as long as it's out of the
Oven they turn away from left over meat. Sour sweets. Ice cubes.

Old cat used to love licking my eldests hair. Only his. She would sit for hours licking it whether just washed or needing washing.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/04/2017 20:35

Harry isn't really interested in human food apart from salad cream, I Can't Believe it's not Butter Light and Haagen Dazs dulche du leche ice cream!

Ollivander84 · 26/04/2017 00:59

Ollie likes yoghurt, pork scratchings and cheese. Not mild cheese (he glares at me if I try that) but mature cheddar and Parmesan HmmConfused
Stable cat eats. Um. Anything? Porridge, soup, cereal, milk, eggs, yoghurt, vegetables, crisps, bread, subway cookies, the dog and small children

ElizaDontlittle · 26/04/2017 06:13

tcn so sorry to hear about Cyril. What a handsome boy he was.
And I agree we have to see Maiden's cats in a highchair eating their tea! Pleeease?!

Crazycat loves mayonnaise, and melted butter. There are lots of non food things though like leaves, especially long, spiky ones, which with only 2 teeth she ends up swallowing whole and vomits back up painfully, a bit at a time. She never learns Hmm. She will pull tissues out of the box and eat bits and try and eat her own fluff after I've brushed her. She gives my coffee a really good sniff - more so than any other drink! Funny girl.
I did have a cat that could hear you cracking an egg from 100 paced - it would come running to lick the inside of the shell!
A friend's cat has required surgery not once but twice for swallowed earplugs to the tune of 4 figure sums each time. Ouch... mine is thankfully not fussed!

thecatneuterer · 26/04/2017 13:18

theresnoname I think you have a lucrative opportunity with your Pizza-eating cat. It could make a great advert for the pizza place. Showing him turning his nose up at all other pizzas and only eating theirs 'even cats agree ours is the only pizza worth having' or something...

TheWayYouLookTonight · 26/04/2017 13:28

We are super strict with stopping Mr T eating human food. Things he has managed to devour anyway include cheese, pork scratchings and dry roasted peanuts.

Non-food favourites include flies and spiders (the bigger and hairier the better ), and the ultimate favourite which is those thick rubber bands that the postman puts round bundles of letters. Obviously those are potentially v v bad for him, so we have to be on alert for postie putting them through the door!

Oh, and he likes to tray and lick my hands after I've washed them with Dove liquid hand soap Hmm

SanFranBear · 26/04/2017 18:54

My boy adores crisps - sweet chilli Sunbites being his favourite. Unfortunately, too much caused his pee pipes to block so he's no longer allowed any type of cereal - he is so sad and will beg for then if you're munching Sad

turkeyboots · 26/04/2017 18:56

My girl loves ice cream and curry. Her brother loves melon.
