Cruel to let kitten sleep on bed only sometimes?

Is is cruel to let the kitten sleep on my bed at the weekends only?

Like I mean is it mixed messages if I have him downstairs in the week but on my bed at weekends?

I've been really consistent with having the kitten downstairs at night... except last weekend I got in late and felt bad because I had been out all day and let him sleep on my bed. It was lovely. He curled up around my head/neck and purred a lot, but it was a little disturbing having him there.

He also got very active about 6.30 and started ruining riot on the bed so I had to get up and feed him and shut him downstairs with his toys so I could have a bit of a lie in.

T I let him stay on Saturday night as well. He was much more active in the night and I really didn't get great sleep but I do like having a purring fur ball in my face. Big wake up and biting toes/elbow at 6.30am again.

During the working week he has been back downstairs.

So - can I have him back on my bed this weekend or is that just going to confuse him?

I'm not sure where kitten slept last night. He was playing around my bed when I got in but I zonked straight out - I got woken at 6.30am by my arm being attacked by a very awake and playful kitten... kitten removed to the kitchen for another hour of sleep until get up time!

Awwwww. He's just gorgeous. How could anyone possibly resist snuggling up with that ball of cutiepieness. However yes it will get confusing for him. Cats don't have concept of days and times, do. They.

cozietoesie · 11/03/2017 13:42

They're pretty good on 'types' of things though. You just need to give them a clue of sorts eg saying to them 'Work Day' so that they get the message. Smile

Like the Dowager Countess of Grantham, cats have no idea what a weekend is. So I would say one rule or the other, permanently. I don't think it's fair to be inconsistent.

cozietoesie · 11/03/2017 21:16

The great thing about being allowed to share their bed by a bonded Siamese is that the bed becomes their 'safe place' - the place they'll go if in doubt. Smile

OK so on you [massively biased] advice I let him sleep on the bed all weekend and last night.

I think staying on the bed at night is the new 'normal'.

Saturday night he was a bit annoying at 6am but I was dead tired so just ignored him and he settled back down. Last night he was a dream, and about 5 mins before my alarm clock went off he disturbed me, Furry snuggle is nicer than my alarm clock for sure!

DP and I aren't living together at the moment - suspect I've just created a massive barrier to that happening! Or of ever getting a new DP.

They tend, in my experience Wink, to be pretty discreet.

Kiroro · 13/03/2017 12:36

@cozietoesie they would have to be quite a cat lover to appreciate the kitten/pillow/face thing...!

It's gross to have any animal in your bed.

cozietoesie · 13/03/2017 12:59

Well I don't know, Watery. I'm an animal after all. (And cats are very clean. Smile)

WateryTart · 13/03/2017 13:05

They don't wipe their bums after they shit. They have dander in their fur and they smell. Does that apply to you? Grin

They lick their bums clean tho! :-)

I'm not a fan of being licked by the kitten, but his bum smells totally clean.

Aww having seen the photo, my vote would be he can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants!

BertieBotts · 13/03/2017 15:26

It's fine to shut them out internittently as long as there's somewhere warm he can go! It's not like you're throwing him outside onto the street :o

I don't think you can confuse a cat, they don't really listen to rules in the first place.

I think my girly gets that there are two types of days. Lazy days and Work days. But she cooling about most things that don't suit her. Work Days Do Not Suit. But she can complain as much as she likes, the human must work to keep her in Dreamies. She accedes the point.

hollinhurst84 · 13/03/2017 17:11

Mine sleeps on my hip. Or under the duvet with his head on the pillow Hmm
He does a great face in "YOUR side, MY side and no snoring human" God forbid I wake him, he's like a teenage boy and snaps his tail over his eyes crossly

Oldraver · 13/03/2017 18:10

When our kitten started sleeping upstairs on our bed...sometime around the 14 week mark...he used to take himself off to bed around 9pm and sleep through till OH came home at 6ish. I had to start going to bed earlier. He has for the last few months slept in his own bed that's on an ottoman. He and the bed do occasionally fall off. We've had a new bed for a few weeks and he now likes to go under there where he has another bed.

We left him for two nights at the weekend (DS1 was cat sitting)..he must of been glad to have us back as he got on the bed for the first time in ages

But you have a gorgeous fluffy cat......Grin

Kiroro · 13/03/2017 21:33

@Oldraver

Yeah the kitten is more cuddly that DP was anyway! You win some :-)

Cat-in-bed is best bit of the relationship; specifically, of any relationship, ever.

As I type Mr C and I are in bed enjoying a tuna sandwich in civilised fashion (half each, placed on our respective sides of the bed) while he watches pigeons/ I watch Netflix.

Once feasting has finished, we will consider a nap. I am confident of being woken after not too long as he knows there is lamb in the fridge I ought to be cooking :)
