Preventing cats doing Daft / dangerous things!

We live in a bog Standard Victorian terrace and adopted 2 cats in October. They have totally moved in and seem very happy but young BoyCat (9 months old approx) has taken a liking to walking along the upstairs bannister rail, which terrifies me!

It's a small-ish drop on the landing side but a much bigger drop onto the stairs and he's had a few scrabbly near misses already, so does anyone have any tips on how to gently prevent him getting up there or should I just keep closing my eyes when he does it?

Leave him to it. He's developing his balancing skills which if he goes outside could save his life.

Mine do that. Terrifies me as one bit is over the bottom of the staircase. I just pretend it's not happening. One of mine is a bit dim and has already failed to land on the fence when trying to get down from next door's garage roof.

One of my cats walks along the bannister rail too, she scares me to death but luckily hasn't fallen yet. I don't think there's anything you can do to stop them, cats are annoying little buggers when they want to be.

I had a cat who did this. There's nothing for it but to allow the imp to be an imp.

Mine used to do the same on the top bannister rail which was 3 floors up! Scared the life out of me but he never came to any harm.

Leave him to it. Our cat is a bit rubbish at being a cat and is a bit wobbly at this. But she clearly gets a kick out of it and can't come to much harm - fall on carpeted stairs. She hasn't fallen yet although some impressive scrambling to hold on.

I think he knows I don't like him doing it, there is a defiant glint in his eyes when he see me .

My girl used to sleep on the bloody thing!

And her and her brother would fight whilst sitting on them. So we put double sided foam tape across the top to stop them from getting up there.
